To comp or not to comp, that is the question.

they shouldn't where they have them or not they really should not... I feel there is no one build in 40k that is going to out do every other build out there... in FB there are some armies that just do not stack up well against certain armies....

As for my Daemons I do not see what orks can do to a Blood thirster or 2... I am also sure that the Great Unclean One will will be even more keen to fight Orks and Goblins of any FB Army out there...
...
So on one hand you're saying that anybody can beat a goblin army because they are so soft and then you're announcing that you will power game like crazy when you play against them.

Translation "I want to be able to bring the cheesiest army ever, full of broken rules and models which in no way reflect what they are supposed to be and I dont want to be penalised when I stomp the casual gamer or the rookie who is playing with a balanced force picked from an average level book."
You also said this:

I know "the C word" but Mike is right about the potential of abuse I know I was planing on taking 2 Plague hulks and scratch building a few Blight Drones for this event and win it even with a 0 in the first round... could there be a bit of Comp for the next Tournament.. ...
Try to be more consistent.

I well I think you have got me there man... I guess what I am saying is... FB needs comp because they have 2 or three broken army books.. it every one played them things would be fine.... but that would be lame if all you saw was Daemons Vampire counts and Empire armies...
40k is different in that even the Tau have a few good build that can deal with a lot of enemies... also the conditions of Victory make it possible to win with a single unit.. In FB if you have one skink left and the other army has most of it left they win in 40k there is a one lone grot on the objective... and the other guy has no troops left the lone Grot wins he game....
Can Comp make the game more of a challenge in 40k I guess so... it certainly makes some people feel good about if but... I have never seen a single army dominate enough to break a tournament... that said I have only seen a few tournaments here in Japan... So I could be wrong...
As for
some FW units they seem to be a bit over powered I really think the plague hulk is a bit too good... Armour 13 that gets a 4+ cover save and shoots a S 6 AP 3 5 inch blast dinner plate shots is just little over powered... I should know I have 2 of them and I have never seen one blown up... after 5 games playing them..
it may seem like I am flip flopping on the issue but I know where I stand on it..
Seems we are a bit off topic now so feel free to move this to a place where we can keep talking about it...

As usual, Cabin Boy 2nd Class Badruck presents another 'interesting' argument (and only contradicts himself two or three times)
I'm gonna move this discussion to Warhammer Fantasy where it kinda belongs.

Riddle me this:
A lot of Bovine Herbivore (a.k.a Tau) players talk about making mostly Kroot Armies etc. but how many actually make it into Tournaments? How many builds with lotsa plasma guns, marker lights and railguns up the wazoo get used?
And while we are on the subject:
How well did the Space Wolf list with actual wolves in it do, in Golden Weeks, 'friendly' campaign? How well did the Bugs and the Doom of Malantai do? How about the double Lash Prince CSM army?
Or in other words, Is 40K really so balanced after all that it doesn't need comp scores?

Badruck presented an argument? I thought he was just talking out of his Squig-hole again.
Beating every other player with a much more powerful army =/= being the best player. It just means that you were confident that you could make up the comp points in the games.
Using an overpowered list vs. a balanced/soft list without comp is playing on easy mode. Composition exists to allow players who dont have or dont want to use the best current army book the chance to play and win in the tournament.
E.g. Pike's score WITH comp - 115, Pike's score WITHOUT comp - 101
My score WITH comp - 101, My score WITHOUT comp - 73
David's score WITH comp - 95 , David's score WITHOUT comp - 61
Adam's score WITH comp - 81, Adam's score WITHOUT comp - 67
Kane's score WITH comp - 70, Kane's score WITHOUT comp - 42
Range with - 45, Range without - 59

Ikeda's space wolves would have got a good comp score. They weren't overpowered and he had lots of soft choices. The Doom and the Swarmlord bugs would have a low comp, as would the double lash CSM.
Let's also look at the advice in the 40k tactics section.
The players supporting comp suggest focussing on objectives and knowing your opponent.
The players against (or not, its confusing) comp suggest SPAM YOUR SUPA UNITZ!!!
Pretty telling....

Some folks also seem to think that the top tier Army books in WFB are unbeatable but that is not the case. It really depends more on the General.
The all-goblin army was actually quite tough to beat. There were just so many units to deal with and my opponet knew what he was doing too. I had never met a Stone thrower sniper before and I never want to meet one again.
Still don't believe me, then how can Beastmen, previously a bottom tier army, recently bumped to somewhere in the middle of the pack, force a Vampire Army to concede in just three turns?
