Back to War - Warhammer Fantasy
Hi all,
I used to play warhammer back in highschool, which is about 15 years ago! (I think we are the same age Primarch)
Anyway, I have a sudden urge to start playing again but have some questions that I though you all could help me with:
1.) What is the fantasy situation like in Nagoya?
2.) Have the army books reached a good balance between the different races now?
I would just like to meet some nice people and have some fun playing Warhammer and maybe have a few beers too.
Thanks in advance all.

Hey,
1. The fantasy game is picking up in Nagoya, we have had several recent converts and additions due to the new edition. There is a fantasy tournament on October 31st in Kanayama if you are interested.
2. Some army books are still better than other army books, but the new edition is helping to balance out some of the issues (whilst raising new ones). At the moment, everyone is still getting to grips with the new system, so it is hard to say which books are at the top of the pile.
Regards
Primarch.

Thanks for the reply
Well I am interested in the Kanayama tournament Primarch.
Where will it be held?
Sorry for all the questions Primarch, but could you tell me the best way to get figures in Japan. I have heard there is a Gamesworkshop in Tokyo but I'd rather not head all the way up there. Is it better to order online?
Thanks again!

Beers and Warhammer, a match made in Heaven
Primarch pretty much said it all in his post but here is my two yen:
Now is actually a good time to be getting back into Warhammer. The new edition has only been out for a coupla months so we are slowly getting our heads around it. This edition nerfed, to some extent, some of the uber-combos/armies/characters that had sprung up in the last edition. The tricks that won games in the last edition often won't work in this one. IMHO they have moved the focus firmly back onto large blocks of infantry which is nice to see.
As for the Nagoya scene, Warhammer 40K has been king for a while but there has been a bit of a renaissance for WFB recently, again partly due to the new edition. FB used to be the main game in Japan but once GW finally got round to providing rules for 4OK in Japanese that really took off. There are still a lot of armied out there though.
I have 3 pretty big armies at the moment, Dark Elves, Beastmen and Chaos Daemons (Chaos was split in 3 army books recently). There are also High Elf, Vampire Counts, Skaven, warriors of Chaos and Orc and Goblin armies around too.
By the way, what army did you play back in the day? What army are yo interested in this edition? Feel free to come along to the Hallo-war WFB tournament and have a look around.

This is a link to most of the web based mini dealers that I an most of the guys on here use. So much cheaper than buying directly from the Evil Empire. Maelstrom and Wayland seem to be the most popular sites to shop from amongst those on here.

Details of the event can be found here:

As for getting models, buying online is definitely the way to go. The yen is really strong at the moment so ordering from one of the big UK/US discounters is very reasonable.
As I wrote in the second post of the above thread I really like Maelstrom. Free shipping, a generous basic discount which gets bigger the more you spend, a customer loyalty 'moneyback' system etc etc. Wayland games, a sponsor of this site is also quite good.

Thanks for all the info gents!
Will hope to see you guys at the tournament then.
I used to play high elves and dark elves, so this time I am planning to round it all off and play wood elves

One tactical blunder and I'll have me woodies running up the trees
But that is all part of the fun!
Thanks again guys and cheers!

Hi Kojibear,
Welcome back to WHFB! I used to play it often in Sapporo two and half years ago, but seldom in Nagoya.
I'm also getting back to the game. I have two rather big armies, Dwarfs and Empire around 3000 points.
I will join the Halo-War tournament, so let's talk.

If you are interested in wood elves, I have a box of dryad to sell you very cheap (for one or two thousand yen)kojibear wrote:Thanks for all the info gents!

Thanks for the welcome asch
I am sure one day your empire cannon balls will be turning my trees to splinters
I look forward to seeing you at the tournament on the 31st and maybe a beer or two. The dryad deals sounds great.
Thanks again everyone for the nice advice and welcome.

Re: Back to War - Warhammer Fantasy
Welcome. It's always good to have another warhammer player around to cut apart in the heat of battle.
And if you want a wood elf battalion plus a spell weaver, I have one of each that I would be willing to sell.
