Chaos Warriors Weapons

Post by Seb » Thu May 05, 2011 1:00 pm

Hello,

I need some guidance of what I am to equip my warriors with.
Choose between: Shield, Additional Hand Weapon, Halberd or Great Weapon
Since you only get the options of shield or additional hand weapon with the box I am thinking of either of these, I don't want to buy extra weapons.
But I would like to hear some opinions. If I go with one weapon option can I also choose shields and switch weapons between combat phases?

There is a section in the rulebook that answers all your questions.
Its at the start of the Weapons section on pages 88 and 89 I believe.

One thing you might want to consider is how expensive will the models be?

Aye, it seems like you have to go with what you choose and can't switch between weapons as you like, only if you have 2 special weapons you can choose but I guess hand weapon and shield doesn't count as that. Better keep it simple and go with just hand weapon and shield then. I love simple. :D

Thanks for the reply.

It really depends on what you want the unit to do.

Hunt monsters? great weapons are best.
Standard line unit that absorbs damage and gives a good accounting? Hand weapon and shield (nurgle and tzeentch are best here)
Horde killer? double hand weapons (pref mark of khorne)
high T infantry? halberds

Remember you can use a shield during the shooting phase to keep your warriors alive a bit more.

Of the above, I would say hand weapon and shield, khorne double hand weapons, and halberds are the best options

Thanks for that mate! It has really got me thinking..
I wanted to run a Khorne Army but I like the shield combo so I am thinking of running mixed gods now. Khorne Lord with Nurgle warriors maybe..

Oh you don't have to do that. I think there is absolutely nothing wrong with khorne warriors who have hand weapons and shields. I'm a big fan of hand weapon and shield and chaos warriors with an awesome amor save AND a parry save from the shield makes them tough as bloody nails. I'd say keep the khorne theme and give them whatever armament you want them to want them to butcher their quarry with. Nothing spoils a themed army more than well, changing the theme  .

As for choosing weapons, well keep in mind that supporting attacks from the second rank only ever give 1 attack a piece, so if you go 2 hand weapons then only the front rank will get that extra attack. Halberds and great weapons are cool for their strength bonuses but you will have hard hitting chaos knights that do the monster killing right?

Jus is right, khorne warriors with shields is fine. Just that Nurgle and Tzeentch add a little extra.

Knights while wonderful aren't always the best choice for monster hunter as they will always be few in numbers and if you can't wipe it out in one turn then you might be stomped to death.
