Looks great man. I knew you could paint heroic 28 scale. :D

@prime there is not much he can do with the mould lines at this point. Is there?

He said it was a test mini. Hopefully he can take care of the rest of them before painting.

If I may offer a couple of suggestions.
1. Mold lines, you really dont need them. (sorry, pet peeve of mine).
2. The piping around the joints, particularly the back of the knees but also elbows, wrists and hips is an easy way to add some extra colour to the mini and break up the black armour a bit.

Other than that, keep up the good work. I am looking forward to seeing them done. I will bring the nids you requested along to Joshin (Please remind me the day before as I will forget). :D
Flash I can deal with. The actual mold lines like seem to appear on each and every tactical marine would require me to attack pretty much every component of every dude with a file, a thought that fills me with dread. :D I suppose I probably oughtta, though, they really are ugly. Curse you, GW, and your first-generation plastic infantry kits!

The joint piping will probably get some gunmetal or something in there.

Really, my biggest weakness in painting and modeling is that I'm fundamentally irredeemably lazy, heh.

(The chapter symbol is freehand. Simplicity of the symbol was a big selling point. See comment above, &c.)

Looking good.

Are these minis intended to be used exclusively for ASC? If so, I would recommend basing them on 30mm square bases, to match the boards. Speaking of which, there was a seventh board tile in a White Dwarf, 13-something, and an Imperial Guard army list in WD 132.

For what it's worth, the current official colour scheme is here:

I did check out the official style, but it didn't really wow me much - a bit monochromatic (and hence my bellyaching about what color to do knee pads and what-not). I do have that 7th tile, though! Cut out of the magazine itself and mounted onto cardboard way back in 199X.

I think I'll stick with the bases as they are. Trying to fit terminators or tyranid warriors onto 30mm squares might be tight, and as it stands there's really plenty of room even if you have 2 large-based models adjacent. Will have to remember to clearly mark facing on the bases, though.

(Forgot to reply to this. :D)

Oh, I can paint 28mm, I just don't like 40K much so don't have much call to, heh.

I was plotting it out in GIMP, and a 30mm square isn't much different to a 40mm round base (42mm diagonal) so Terminators should fit.

Facing shouldn't be a problem, though - after all, all the models do have a head. :)

Best to be safe, I think - especially with the dynamic models that have become the norm since ASC was first published. (OTOH, of course, you're right, all models have a head, and anybody who'd try and game the system making one of their dudes have more than one possible facing probably wouldn't ever be playing ASC.)
