Why Andrew shouldn't be allowed on Ebay ...

4 40K Zoats, 3 fantasy Zoats, a Screamer-Killer, two Hunter-Slayers and an (offscreen) Tyranid Warrior. The sum total of the Hive Fleets in 1st edition 40K.
This log might be rather slow. I'm thinking of greens and natural colours for the Zoats, and reds for the Tyranids and the equipment/weaponry on the 40K Zoats.

A most excellent purchase. I am all in favour of the purchasing of RT era stuff as it is most excellent. The excellentness of this purchase is in great (and excellent) abundance. And I am sure they were excellently purchased too
Seriously though, great find mate. I am looking forward to seeing them painted up. I think that the cokour choices will fit too.

Ooh eck missus, thats lovely. (and excellent, too, but since Mus has used up this thread's quota of said word, I'll stick to lovely for the moment.)
Is the tyranid one of the ones as-pictured in the RT rulebook (i.e. all running along horizontally) or is it a proper 'nid warrior, but metal?
either way, lovely stuff. I have 2 zoats, too, y'know. Got em off you, as I recall. Unless I gave em back? I dont think I did, but I cant remember. They may be in a box, somewhere at the bottom of another box, somewhere in my back room...

Whilst nostalgia is certainly a factor, I have to say that I much prefer the newer 'nid models to the old ones. I know Spev (amongst others) will hate me for saying this, but some of the older models don't look that good anymore.
I have one of the old Screamer Killers and it just doesnt compare to the newer plastic Carnifexes. Its not a bad model in its own right, but I prefer the newer sculpts.
Anyway, AGP, how much did that little lot set you back?

I'm actually not that big a fan of the Screamer Killer BUT the Zoats rock! I think that on the whole, the Tyranid range has a much better look than they used to.

Zotes are very cool back in RT days they were my favorite idea for a new army.. if only the comic Store had them when I picked up my first box of orks.. the would have been like $3 each back then...

Including the other two Hunter-Slayers, but not the spare Zoat that I sold on, £160.
Ouch.
Dave, no it's not the
Tyranid Warrior pictured in the Rogue Trader rulebook. That's an unreleased model, and rarer than rocking horse poo (as is the
baby Zoat - about a dozen in the world, apparently). It's the metal one with two boneswords that looks like the plastic Warriors that came in Advanced Space Crusade and Tyranid Attack.
As to old vs new, in general I agree that the newer stuff is better than the old. However, I prefer the original Hunter-Slayers to the current Termagants. IMO Termagants have got worse with every new version. I also prefer the 1st and 2nd edition designs that had weapons - especially ranged weapons - as recognisably different entities to the creature carrying them. Plus, pinkish white is a horrible colour choice.

Let me throw in a couple "excellents" on top of Spev's. And an "awesome" or two to boot. RT stuff is pure nostalgia for me. I think I remember maybe seeing Zoats on the board twice. The new figs are 90% better, no argument, but the old stuff does have a certain charm.
Unrelated side-note, but this thread sort of reminds me. Last summer when I was home, I went down to the local gamestore with my nephew and a box of my old figures I left in the attic. One of the guys down there playing 40K walked over to see what the "new" guy (I used to work there years ago, but didn't know any of the guys there that evening) burst out, "This guy has got Squats! No way!" Being the crusty old guy is fun.
