I've been using DecoArt Americana Black and White. You get 59mm for the cost of a GW paintpot. Works fine so far. Have not tried any of the other colors.
For painting medium, I just use Liquitex matte medium. Very handy stuff. Find it in any arts and crafts section. Just a teeny bit mixed in really helps the flow.
