The wraith thingie is a fail on a number of counts:

1) the chest is waaaaay too big. Cut a V shape in the middle and it would have boobs. Even disregarding the silliness of the shape, Eldar should have slim lines, not macho-robo-kickass lines.

2) the pose, much like the wraith lord, is booooooring. GW need to realise that pose is vital to conveying the tone of a mode. The dread knight is legs akimbo, big, strong and static. Fine - that's what space marines do. The riptide, by benefit of its leg-pose, is just a twitch more graceful looking. Again, kinda ok, although I would've preferred something a but more jet-packey. The wraith Knight, otoh, is a big, solid lump. No grace, no real Eldar aesthetic, just a riptide with a wraith lord head and some Eldar blobs added.

3) proportions: huuuuuge barrel chest, teeny itty bitty arms, loooooong legs. Li'l head perched on the top. And... is that a piston or something I see on the inside of his upper thigh, or has he just seen something exciting?

4) crap feet. Overly chunky, and somewhat reminiscent of a cross between power armour and tau.

4) minor point, but why is it called a wraith knight if a wraith lord is less than half the size of it? Surely it should be a wraith king or something? Stupid, thoughtless piece of nomenclature. I know it's hardly important, but it's indicative of the "ah sod it, make it look like a cartoon and the kids will buy it" attitude held by GW. What happened to the Jes who went off and invented the entire cultural background of the craftworlds just to justify some gemstones on his sculpts?

You can't have forgotten these, surely?

The Knight suits are crewed by a single Eldar pilot. This thing is crewed by a crewman bonded to a wraithstone. Hence the name. You can make a pretty accurate stab at how it works in the setting from just the name. That also explains the barrel chest - unlike the smaller Wraithlords, it needs room to get a dude in there.

The bright red Saim-hann colour scheme doesn't do it any favours, I admit. And while I'm not a fan of giving every army a Great Big Thing which goes on that oval base, this one is at least less of a shock than the Dreadknight or the Riptide. At least Eldar have had big ol' walkers in the background before. :)

As an aside, this is why companies "continue their crusade to stamp out those dirty rumours"; because leaked photos like this don't show the product off to their advantage. Look in the White Dwarf when it comes out, there'll be a selection of Wraithknights in various poses and colour schemes. I'd be surprised if this thing is less poseable than the Riptide.

My two yen...

Flyer pic is tiny so can't really comment there. Looks OK from what can be seen.

Wraithlord. Gulp..um..err, I think I have to agree (kinda) with MiJ here. It's a bit too chunky monkey for an Eldar Warmachine. Must have been lifting kettle bells and eating kebabs by the truckload or summin' :D
Still, it is only a couple of scanned pictures we are basing our most humble opinions on, right.
If it is indeed completely fugly in real life I might try converting it into a quadraped 'knight' like Ikeda-san did with his Wraithlord.

As for the Iyanden thingy...... (Why don't we have a smiley for a big steaming pile of ****?)

@haters who say " IT's not very impressive!"Image

Hold on, you poor, miserable, old, ojisan

you haven't even seen the sprues yet, there may be several options for heads and arms to POSE it more dynamically.

EDIT: the image on Dakka is not a good image to judge the model by because the page of the white dwarf it is shot from is gone convex due to opening at the binder, thus distorting the image.

Take a good look at that image and compare it to a shot of a page that is FLAT.

I don't know if you guys are looking at the same picture I am. That wraith thing is pretty slim and elegant-looking in spite of the chest — which looks a bit bulky and thickly-armoured (since it is the cockpit), but not in a silly faux-pectoral-muscle sort of way.

I dont have any particular problems with the model itself. I do find it ugly but that is just a matter of personal taste.

I just dont like the big walker trend that is going on at the moment.

It is MUCH better than the GK one. That abomination is, well abominable and I will never understand why anyone would put that in their army.

I think MiJ's first point hit on an important point. This thing would sell better to the target audience if it had boobs.

I actually like the approach to the design, but think they fell flat on proportions. It feels in theme but looks kinda...off? I can't look at those legs and think anything other than some kickin' red bell bottoms, especially with that foot plate covering down to the toes. It might also have something to do with that helmet and Daft Punk's latest funk music.

Ok, so I read folks views and tried to give it another shot. I sat and looked at it for a few minutes and tried to find things to like about it.

The head, in and of itself, is nice. The back forms especially so.
It's definitely an Eldar walker.

But...the proportions, man. Jeez. The head is too small. The arms are too small. The wings are too small. Alternatively, the torso and legs are too big. Take yer pick. Either way, it looks daft.

As for the Knights of old, no I hadn't forgotten em, of course. The problem doesn't lie so much with it being called a knight as the wraith lord being a lord. GW backed themselves into a corner on that one, and instead of either admiring it or doing something clever, they just went right ahead and chose the makes-no-sense naming option.

Does anybody (and I'm looking at you here, Miguel) know of any Eldar-ish mecha models out there that might be a reasonable proxy?
