Flyers rumour from Beasts of War

So.... Beasts of War have had a strange run of 'leaked' images hitting their site as of late. They were the first site to show both waves of the new necrons about a month before release, as well as having a couple of other scoops. Could it be that GW are using them as a mouth piece to give out rumours under their own control. (i.e. "We'll give you all the info so people will come to your site, but you have to give out what we tell you and when.")

Rumours of flyers have been kicking around now for a while and they have been picking up as of late, with one person claiming that he was in the GW distribution office where he saw a plane shaped image on a box on a shelf. With the current addition of the Arial Assault and Supersonic as flyer semi-USRs (See the Dark Eldar and Necron books for example), they certainly seem to have a way to be used in game.

Anyway, on to the flyer rumour itself.
At the start of June we will see three kits hit the shelves.
1. Necron Doom/Night Scythe kit.
2. Ork Biltza-Bommer, Dakkajet and Burna-Bommer kit.
3. Space Marine Storm Talon kit.

The Necron kit has rules in the codex.
The Ork kit has the following:
Dakkajet
BS 2
10/10/10
Twin-linked Dakka Guns
Aerial Assault
Supersonic
Waaagh! plane - can fire twice in the turn you call Waaagh!
Strafing Run - BS 3 vs everything but jump infantry and skimmers
Fighta Ace upgrade - BS 3 against everything

Burna-Bomba
BS 2
10/10/10
Aerial Assault
Supersonic
Waaagh! plane - can fire twice in the turn you call Waaagh!
Burna Bomb - Similar to a Scorcha (S5 AP4)
S7 AP1 bomb in the movement phase?
Burna Missile - S5 AP4 small blast, ignores cover, one use
Grot gunner on one weapon

And the Marine kit has these rules:
Storm Talon Gunship - 130 points
BS 4
11/11/11
Supersonic
Aerial Assault
Ceramine Plating
Escort Craft - Attach the Storm Talon to a unit in reserves to deep strike, and it automatically arrives from reserve 6" away from the deep striking unit
---Specific caveat banning you from attaching the Stormtalon to another Stormtalon in reserve
Special rule where it can hover in place for a turn to gain BS 5
--No Transport Capacity--
--No Melta weapons or flamers--
Twin-linked heavy bolters, can upgrade to twin-linked Lascannon
Twin-linked assault cannon
Potential upgrade to add Typhoon missiles
Skyhammer Missiles S7 AP 4

In the artwork shown the Ork plane looks like a fighta bomma and the marine plane looks like a Storm Raven. (sigh)

So could this be the start of a new wave of big expensive kits for 40k? Or maybe not. The BoW site has removed the video....... ;)

Darn... I finally forked out the cash for a FW fighta bomma and now I could of gotten it in plastic.

Yeah, but you are probably better off with the sturdier FW model. :)

If this is true, I do hope they release a flyer and model for each faction (that doesn't have one).

Hum. Every new release GW make seems to push me further and further from 40k. The only halfway respectable way to represent fighter planes in 40k is as a blast marker, because a 40k battlefield is something they'd pass over in about 0.1 seconds, then spend ten minutes turning around for the return visit. The rules are getting to te point where theyre purely a vehicle to sell the new minis. The setting can go hang so far as GW are concerned, it seems.

The fact that DE are still waiting on their bomber , and that eldar, the alleged kings of all things airborne, still have no flyers is another thing that ticks me off. Meh, sod em. I had a great time playing warmachine yesterday, and I enjoyed 40k a lot on Thursday. I'm starting to think we should just freeze the 40k rules the way they are, and GW can take their 6th ed and shove it up their corporate bunghole :(

The planes won't be exactly the same I'm guessing, but yeah, it sucks to have bought the FW model when the plastic kit will (may) be available in the near future. It's far easier to work with plastic than resin. On the plus side, the final price in Yen may not be much different between the two models depending on the size of the ork kit.

Wise, wise words.

Wow some one is unhappy.

Here I thought this was a game. If you want a game that is something that is like a real war then you real should stop plaing 40k and go play black powder. GW does some daft things to make money. So does every big company but I guess you still eat at McDonalds. I look at GW as a company that makes models for me to paint. And then they go one step more and write books about the models. And then they take it one more step forward and write a game set for the stories and the modles.

Is it completely daft to have a flying unit in a fight that takes place in an area the size of 3 football pitches? Yes I must say it is.

Is it fun to have a fast flying thing in a game that takes place on a table and in the minds of a few guys that happen to love building and playing with some rather cool toys? I have no problem with that.

Eldar are sure to get a new codex and some really cool models soon enough. Mean wile you can play with any forge world models you like.

I'm with Badruck on this. I mean, if you are going to complain about the role of flyers in a game, please bear in mind that in 40k, you have rifles with a range of 24 metres and artillery weapons with a range of about 48-60 metres. The scale of the game is screwy to say the least, so it is best just to ignore it and have some fun with your friends. :D :D :D
