Love him or hate him (non-CSM players or CSM players), Gav Thorpe was a prolific rules writer for GW and since he left the company he has continued to do some games design on the side. His most recent work is a new Fantasy Pirates game called Cutlass.
You can find the details on his blog, but essentially the game looks like Mordheim+Pirates of the Carribean=Awesomeness.
The game is published by Black Scorpion, you can find their pirates here and their fantasy pirates here. They even have an Orc Admiral, perfect for anyone who thinks Orc Admirals are cool. :D :D :D

Some more rules info.

11 Views and no comments? I'm going to have to do more to get some attention aren't I?

Well, here you go. Pictures of some of the fantasy crews from Black Scorpion. All reasonably priced (cheaper than Freebooter's Fate, the other fantasy pirate game anyway).

I'd probably be more interested if I was buying miniatures this year! Otherwise it looks like it could be pretty fun. Not much into pirates but maybe if I could proxy some seaworthy cult of Dagon or something...

You could run a Cult of Dagon if you wanted. It certainly fits the theme of the game. Of course, they'd need to be equipped with Muskets, Pistols, Cutlasses and Daggers and at least make some effort of fitting the time period. (e.g. having them in scuba gear or with jet packs isnt going to cut it). You'd also need to choose one of the existing crew types to use as the basis for their rules.
Other than that, sure I think it would be awesome.

I am very keen for a fantasy pirate game. As Prim said, 'awesomeness!'.

It looks like you only need about 9 - 10 models which means my wife won't realise it when I receive a tiny package in the mail ;)

The female pirates looked great, but alas my fellow kiwi, Mike, has adopted them for his own. Good choice pal. I am looking at the elves now, though only 4 as yet that I can see.

I like the idea of playing me one big game of WFB, and then smaller skirmish type games to round things off. It is like a big whole in my heart has been filled with cutlass! I am a changed man! (...Is that OK Prim? A bit too much? ;) :D )

(in hushed tones) no, no, it sounded very convincing. I'm sure you've fooled them all.

all of the models look great but is there any way to just use converted models that one already has..I do not see myself getting too many games of this in... it looks great though I hope I can find time to play it...

@Badruck: Sure, so long as they look piratical and are carrying pirate like weapons (muskets and wheel-lock pistols rather than sluggas and shootas :D ).

@All:
The Races/Factions in Cutlass are:
Pirates, Privateers, Navy, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs (and gobbos), Undead.

GW's Mordheim humans come with some piratey looking stuff on the sprue, as does the very similar Empire Militia box.

If people want to convert their own pirate crew thats fine (the Privateers above are still up for grabs BTW), but please dont just use proxies. You can play with a handful of Space Marines if you want, but you can find your own terrain and your own table to play on.
