FoW: Vehicle Bases

Post by The Other Dave » Sun Jul 24, 2011 11:07 pm

Being me, I'm thinking I want to put my vehicles on bases - looks nicer, more stability, ties in with the rest of the army, protects the paint job, all that jazz.

Litko makes both 40mm x 80mm and 50mm x 80mm bases, and it looks like the half-tracks will fit nicely on that - can anyone with Shermans and/or Priests on hand tell me if they'd need 50mm across, or if 40mm would do? (My target is at least about 5mm of base extending beyond the vehicle.) I'd like to make all the bases the same size, again 'cause I'm anal that way.

As you know I base all my AFVs too, for all the same reasons. I either use the 'big' artillery bases 50mm x 75mm IIRC or cut some from plasticard to the same specs. Shermans are quite small and narrow and will easily fit on a 40mm base.

Excellent, thanks. The artillery bases follow the standard pattern and are the same size as two of the infantry bases put together, right? That seemed a bit short when I tried sticking a half-track on, but may work out better when it comes to FoW-custom carry cases.

Man, I guess I need a carry case too, come to think of it.

A half track should just fit lengthways on an Artillery base with 5+mm on either side.

They do indeed!

Which reminds me, I also need to work on my waterslide transfer technique. All the places they're supposed to go on the half-tracks are all bumpy, so I know they'd come out looking like poo if I tried to do them. On the other hand, vehicles with insignia look 1000% better than those without.

@Job: Got it from Joshin when I was browsing through the various accessories etc on the 3F (IIR).

@TOD: Decal Softener is your friend. You can get Vallejo stuff from that weird toy/model shop just along from Joshin. Battlefront has a tutorial somewhere on their site too.
