Warhammer 40,000 Rpgs

I know my local (Nagoya) gaming group has tried Dark Heresy and Rogue Trader, but has anyone else out there given these games a look over? As a DM I find that they can be tricky to run since a lot of the reference material you need is all in the same book, but spread across a lot of different pages. From a plot point of view I have had trouble with both. It is very hard to do 'sandbox' style games with them I think.

With the Haarlock trilogy released now for DH, I'd like to get back into playing that again in the new year I think. I have a bunch of published adventures I would like to work through. That said I am sure my gaming group would like to get back into RT as well. Choices choices.

Yeah, those 40k rpgs look really good, I still have little to no experience with these rpg sorts, but would love to give rogue trader etc a try. Does that regular rpg circle still meet up ?

Yes, but currently they aren't playing any 40k games.

I find Rogue Trader to be a mixture of Shadowrun and Star Trek, so it's not too hard to sandbox it. It'd be fun to play as GM or player I would think.

Dark Heresy is harder but I enjoy the theme so I can make things work out well Heck, I went and made two sectors of my own to work with. I've enjoyed playing it so far and would enjoy the chance to GM as well.

Deathwatch is also interesting but that is something I would rather be a player in than GM.

I just posted my introduction in the Introductions subforum.

Fact is, I will be running a Rogue Trader campaign from somewhere April onwards. :D If anyone's curious, check my signature.

A note on my GMing style: The campaign will be heavy with 40k lore (really heavy), mystery, intrigue and drama. I prefer larger-than-life plots, which I think these games are ideal for. My games are probably best described as high on conflict, but not necessarily high on dice rolling (although there are those situations too). I make my players face some hard choices that they have to think hard about, since it is a harsh galaxy out there.

If you'd be comfortable with that style of campaign, give Opus Imperatori, Homines Voluntas a look. We have 3-4 slots open right now.
