Trench Crusade

Probably y'all have seen this around the interwebs already, but Trench Crusade currently has a Kickstarter running, and it's honestly the first one in years that has me actually pricking up my ears and paying attention. It finishes in a few days, but I'm faaaairly sure I'm in for a few stls. For me, the selling points are really just that I like the minis and will find a use for them regardless, but the free rules is a nice bonus and tbh it looks pretty intriguing. I probably won't get the rulebook, due to shipping costs, but it's something I might pick up later, if I see one back in the UK or something. That's next-year stuff, though, so I'm not overthinking it at this point.

For those who haven't heard of it, a brief primer could be summarised as:
  • Skirmish game set in alternate WWI, with daemons and suchlike.
  • Written by Tuomas Pirinen, the guy who wrote Mordheim. He (repeatedly) says he reckons this is the best ruleset he's ever done. It's kind of a pet project for him.
  • The mechanics look pretty interesting, actually. See the rulebook here, but mostly I just think blood tokens are an Interesting Thing.
  • It's miniatures agnostic, so you're welcome to use whatever, although...
  • The official minis are all rather good, at least I think so.
  • The rules are all free online, forever to remain so.
  • The KS is extremely successful. Extremely.
I'm just curious: Is anybody else interested in this at all? I'd be happy to print stuff for folks if you'd rather get stls than physical minis.

It does look excellent. The artwork in the book is very grim dark and Blanchitsian. I haven't been paying much attention to it, but I do recall you mentioning it at the Izakaya after NagoyaHammer.

I can probably knock together a faction for playing by kitbashing some minis together. I also have a few Stl's that would work. (Check out Bestiarum: https://www.myminifactory.com/users/Bes ... Miniatures).

So if it is something you plan to paint and play, you can count me in.

Cool 8-) I've pledged for a handful of minis. I figure that's a fairly safe toe in the water, as I'll be able to use them as nurglies even if TC doesn't ultimately float my boat. I'm interested to give the rules a try, though, so if you (or anyone else) fancied it, I'd be very much obliged if we could get a game in some time. (Maybe December?)

@M_i_J - Which faction are you going to build?

black grail. Mostly because I already have a fair smidgeon of useable stuff for it, and crosswise I can use the TC minis for any nurgle stuff I may do in future. It's also nice that even after the kickstarter I can still just buy the stls at regular price if I decide I do want to play the game properly. Like, there's zero fomo. Buying in now is just so I can get a wee discount. I approve of the sedate and respectful attitude, y'know? I've pledged for a Lord of Tumours, the two kinda heavy infantry looking guys, and the mosquito dogs. I have plenty stuff I can use as the kinda plague zombie looking guys, nurgle drones are ideal for the big fly guy, and that only really leaves the mosquito knight and the amalgam, which I can either proxy or get later if I need to.

Mus made an interesting suggestion of maybe using the TC rules to run a realm of chaos style warband campaign. Very slow burn and low key, given how often we play, but I find the idea kinda intriguing. Like, RoC setting, but TC rules and a hodgepodge of minis. Could be cool. Eh, its just a thought :)

Does any of the TC stuff tickle your fancy?

All of the factions look pretty cool in their own way. I'll probably kitbash some figures together to be honest.

With regards to the Kickstarter, do you think there is any way to relock the stretch goal of Gav Thorpe writing for the setting. He's not a great writer.

Ah, on that one you're welcome to just treat it the same way I treat things like Secret Lair magic cards and the incoming US president. I just ignore em and pretend they don't exist. Life is much happier than way 👍

Let me know if you need any bolt action rifles or sub-machine guns for kit-bashing purposes. :D
