In fact, its almost required. I guess it's almost like "you are my friend, and I am your friend. I trust you know that fact well enough, and know me well enough, to realise that I am not in fact trying to insult you when I call you a *******." or something like that...
I see, I have not traveled much in English speaking countries so that must be why I am unfamiliar with it. Most of my English comes from movies/games/books etc. and it is only after moving to Japan some years ago that I actually started to speak it.
Thanks for breaking down the cultural difference.
Honestly, I wouldnt worry about it - theres a huge cultural difference between America, Britain, Australia etc etc. which is impossible to see until you actually live in one of those countries. We speak the same language (more or less) but have been separate countries for so long that there are almost more differences than similarities. Since I came out to Japan Ive become much more aware of what things are unique to Britain, and to be honest some of them are things I'm not that proud of. There's a terrible lack of praise, for example. People (men, especially) tend to never show much emotion, either. Americans, on the other hand, are much better at expressing themselves openly. Then again, Americans can sometims be too dang loud for my tastes, and they witter on about "rights" way too much too  (note: yes, i am making fun of americans here :P )

I was told by a friend who works for a power generation company (i.e. they make electricity) that staff members who were sent from Scotland to work in America were far more likely to get culture shock and come home early than staff members sent to Saudi Arabia.

Anyway, here in Japan I have friends from all over the world, and I see that as being one of the best parts of living in this country. A wee bit of variety is good for the soul, ne :)

The old RT era models are certainly characterful. Almost cartoon-like in a way. Unfotunately there is just such a large difference with the current range that they look out of place if you put them together (and about 3 sizes too small).
I think, for RT the models were well suited. For the current state of the setting (ie grim-dark all is doom etc) they just dont fit.

The paint work is spanking gorgeous though.

All very true unfortunately. Having a bunch of characterful metal figures worked well when WH40K was a small skirmish game. The way the game is now, it wouldn't work from a thematic or economic point of view. I mean, seriously, what kind of person would actually go through the expense of picking up a whole RT era army, and take the time to paint each mini as an individual? 8-)
only a man with a heart of pewter and nuts of steel... or Spevna... Have not seen any work on that lot for a while now are you still working on them?

The orks are on hold until I get my current commision work done. It may take a year but I am not painting anything for myself until it is all done.

Indeed it is mate. I am not touching a single miniature of my own until those bloody Bretts are all done.

this is why I have pretty much sworn off commisions. I dont regret painting Prim's Primarchs, but being honour bound to paint miniature A while you have minis B, C and D waiting that youd much rather do is a big pain in the rear. Im keen to see what Spev has done with the Bretts, mind you - knights in armour with all heraldry and whatnot doesnt seem like his style, particularly. I wanna see what he's done with it :)

In all fairness, I gave you free reign to paint them as and when you liked for a good 6 months, and you benefited from the deal. (Free rhinos etc etc). It's not like I was standing over you whipping you when your painting slowed down.
Besides, the Lion was such a cool model that its being used by 2 people for their avatars. :D

the old school models may look different but I think the RT stuff is a lot more fun than the cold and characterly challenged newer models.
