Half of the gaming community is lapping up their new resin models even at the higher prices and poor quality control.
key word. half.

The other half have left and started playing PP games. Their market share just went down the swannee. This seems to me, with my limited business sense, to be a Bad Thing.
for fans of the comic this was a big sticking point.
Yes, but this kind of movie isn't aimed entirely at those fans. Sure, it was a crap movie (except for mean machine. He was ace) but it surely raised public awareness of Dredd. I don't know and cant be bothered to look it up, but did the JD movie turn a profit? If so - jobs a good un, regardless of what the purists think. The post that Chern Ann made wasn't criticising GW for deserting their fans, per se, it was about GW making horrible business decisions that will ultimately kill them as a profit making company.

Judge Dredd cost 70 million to make.
Judge Dredd grossed 113 million.

As a fan, sure, I was put out by a lot of stuff. I am sure that it was liked by a fair few people, raised Judge Dredd awareness (enough to the point that they are now filming a reboot), and shifted a load of Judge Dredd merchandise.

If they made a 40K movie ( an area with a bigger fan based than Judge Dredd's), got some recognisable names ( Judge Dredd had well known actors, why not 40K?), and did a half way decent job, they would succeed in raising awareness and selling stuff off the back of it. I don't see how making a movie could have a detrimental effect on business.

I also have to agree with the point that the production side of the company is miles better than the retail side.

I realize Hollywood doesn't make these sort of movies just for fanboys but JD was an absolute slap in the face to the character/world. Following the slap (removing the helmet) they then followed up with a kick to the nads and a knife to the kidneys (In other words: Rob Schneider's(?) character).

BTW Mean Machine wasn't the only good part. How about Judge Hershey Bars and the random cameo from Hammerstein? :geek:

But GW turning a profit at the (supposed) expense of it's customers/purists is a bad 'un? :D :D :D

if it was a financially sound decision, then much as I wouldnt like it, I couldnt complain about its money making ability. However, all the indicators point to GW alienating such a large percentage of their customer base that they will (should this trend continue) eventually fail and go bankrupt.

I'm very excited to have my first resin mini. Weighing in at 1.24g is Banelords Cynuise of Old (0.002733732lbs).

USD 5,375 per pound, give or take a latte. So who has a GW mini to weigh??

Good to know the hobby is cheaper than cocaine... ummm I guess
NOTE that he's talking about a banelords mini here. I am genuinely curious here as to where a finecast mini ends up on this price chart...

The price wont be based on weight. They'll be based on in-game effectiveness and how many you'll need.
E.g. one named marine character will cost more than say 1 sternguard despite being the same size, shape and level of detail.
Painted Minis in 2014: 510, in 2015: 300, in 2016 :369, in 2019: 417, in 2020: 450

Three interesting comments from 'The Forum of Doom'...
GW have not been the worst with the price increase for plastic. I work at Wonderland selling 'proper' models from the likes of Airfix, Tamiya, Dragon, etc. While the GW plastics have gone up a few quid, almost all manufacturer's have doubled their prices over the last couple of years, there's even more increases coming in the new year. That's not just new models either but everything in the ranges.
Make of that what you will.

The second and third, more interesting ones are from Heresy Mini's own Andy Foster...
Just had a call from MCP, who supply my metal. Apparently the price of tin has shot up to an all time high and is showing no signs of levelling off. It's already abour 40% higher than it was Horror at the start of the month and prices are changing so rapidly that MCP are having to check them twice a day!

This obviously doesn't bode well for some of my heavier miniatures...I'm waiting to hear what the latest price per kg will cost me for the alloy I use, and if anything needs to go up I will let you know so you have a chance to buy it first.
...and...
When resin costs less than metal, is when I'll start making resin the main components of the ranges.

As to the metal increases, I just shelled out on 100kgs of metal to last me until Salute (Probably). The cost has gone up by 50p per kg since last week, and is expected to keep going up until summer. The main casualty of this is going to be Azaroth (HM009) who has been held at £15.00 for the last couple of years desite the amount of metal in him, just to compete against GW's demon prince prices. I can't really sustain that much longer so he'll be going up to £18.00 (according to my little formula for the price of these things, he should be at least £20 but I can't bring myself to do it.). Get him now while i've got some still in stock from the hammerhead casting...
Rather interesting reading.
