July painting thread

Post by me_in_japan » Tue Jul 12, 2011 2:38 pm

Tis July, so let's get to posting what we've done in this finest of months with a 7 in their assigned number :D

As for me, July is the month in which, after an almost 6 week hiatus, I have actually started painting again. I'd like to say its the month in which I picked up my paintbrushes again, but its not (yet). Instead, I have been exploring the possibilities of my shiny new airbrush.

and oh me oh my, but is it shiny.

I dont want to post pics until its completely finished, but I have spent the past few days painting the first mini to which I could realistically apply the word "irridescent". Seriously, this thing is BlingSwoosh (tm) personified. It's getting to the point where I have to wear sunglasses to paint the bugger :geek:

(note: its not that its a particularly good, or technically difficult paint job, just, y'know, very BlingSwooshy (tm) :D )

so, if y'all can bide a wee bit (a few days, maybe?) then soon enough your eyes will be boggled by my new evil pointy eared creation :D

I can see youre all verra excited by this proposition... :?

Well, I was going to get started in on my newly-arrived FoW goodness, but made the mistake of fiddling with army lists for the game day on the 31st and find myself needing to paint Even More Goblins, heh.
Feel free to call me Dave!

Yeah! FOW!!! :D
More Gobos! (grumble, grumble) Well, that mean I need more dwarves. Time to start painting. (Maybe I'll get a rank of guys, and siege weapons done in time.

My current list calls for 163 (!) goblins. Plus trolls. And a Mangler Squig (for which I have a Very Silly Proxy). Oh, and a giant. And a couple stone throwers, just for good measure.

Oh, they'll all run off right quick, I bet. I've got most of 'em set up on the kitchen table right now, though, and they do look impressive!

Impressive! I will enjoy it one way or another immensely.

I'll try to get something painted to not leave my side so lazy looking. I won't be placing down so many dwarves, but there I'll be cannons and a new grudge thrower. There's lots of shooting, so expect a sulfurous death, goblin!

Since this is a painting thread, some pics:

These fellas are about halfway done - 4 out of 5 colors, and 4 out of 7 painting stages done (if you count base decoration and dipping, which you may as well). I'm actually at the point where I can comfortably do them in batches of 20, which shocks me as much as anyone.
Image

And the next batch waiting to be primed. Note the artsy-fartsy unit-filler-to-be. Sadly, the shrine thing is only 9 bases big, so it won't actually fill up all that much of a unit of goblins. Still, should look cool when I've got 'er painted up, I hope.
Image

And finally, the big pic of everything I have painted. The archers aren't complete units yet - that's what I'm working on getting done by the 31st - and not everything on the table will fit into 2000 points. Still and all, 'em's a lot of goblins!
