Carry cases
Now here's an interesting thing...
Reaper minis are currently doing a kickstarter for their new Bones line of minis. Basically, plastic reaper stuff. All well and good, but the really interesting thing is that theyve just announced an option whereby ANY level of pledge can add 25dollars and get a carry case added to their pledge. (plus 5 dollars shipping) This means you can pledge 1dollar, add 30 for the case and shipping, and you're golden. Now, these aint battlefoam, but still, 31 bucks for a case that can carry 100 minis is nae bad at all, dont you think?
Now, my armies are a bit on the sticky-outty-arms side of things, but for those of you with bog standard marines or similarly sized minis, this could be an ace way to get some really cheap cases.

PS, if youre interested, theyre doing a similar thing with their paint sets.

Yeesh.
Kickstarter, which I explained at great length some time ago when the Sedition Wars Kickstarter was around, is a website where companies can campaign to get funding for their new products.
E.g. Imagine I'm an inventor with a brilliant idea to build a fusion reactor. I have the plans, I have some parts built as prototypes, but I need a million dollars to build the reactor. I don't have a million dollars. So, I make a kickstarter. On my kickstarter page I have a wee video explaining why my fusion reactor is ace, and I ask people to give me money to build it. As a reward for their generosity, I offer them little rewards. For example, if someone pledges 10dollars, I put their name on the memorial plaque outside the reactor. If they pledge 500k, hell, I'll name the frickin reactor after them and promise free power to their kids and grandkids forever n ever.
That is, in essence, a kickstarter. A company asks for money to make stuff, and offers wee rewards as incentives to do so.
The Reaper kickstarter mentioned above is done by the well known miniatures company Reaper. They want to make plastic minis. They have the master sculpts, they have the distribution network, but they need cash to make the moulds. That's what this kickstarter is funding. People can pledge money at various levels, and in return they get various rewards. If the pledge a dollar, they get a "thank you very much" but that's all. If they pledge a hundred dollars, they get a whole bunch of minis (once they're made.) in addition, as the kickstarter becomes more successful and raises more money, Reaper can make more stuff. To encourage folks to pledge big, there are stretch goals. E.g. If the initial target was 30k dollars, a stretch goal might be 60k dollars. If this target is met, Reaper can make 2 moulds instead of 1, and as a thank you to the pledgers, everyone who pledged more than (xxdollars) gets some new, free minis.
Finally, it's common on kickstarter to also just sell stuff to push the pledge total up higher. That's where these carry cases come in. These are not targets or rewards. You just buy them. In order to buy them you have to sign up to the kickstarter and pledge, but as the minimum pledge is 1dollar, that's not a huge problem. You then add 30 dollars to get one case shipped to you.
Once you wrap your head around the concept it's pretty simple, and it's a superb way for mini companies to get funding for projects. The days of GW being the only company with lots of plastic ranges are behind us, I reckon. Roll on lots of cheap, high quality plastics, I say

What if they do not get the money to start with.

Re: Carry cases
Depends on the individual company. The pledgers only get billed at the end of the kikstarter. Most companies wont take the cash unless they make their target. This particular kickstarter had a target of 30k, and is currently sitting on 280k or so with 3 weeks to go. I think they're good...

Re: Carry cases
Just left my pledge.
I'm picking up 30 miniatures (goblins, giant rats, kobolds), and a carry case with space for 100 miniatures all for the tidy little sum of $45. That price includes shipping to me door.
Cannot complain about that.
