Too late, I know, but hot wire cutters are rubbish and only make your life difficult. Get a nice long, sharp knife and you'll find things going much more smoothly.

I think it depends what you want to use it for. A knife will give you some nice neat lines if it is sharp enough. The wire cutter will zip through polystyrene very quickly if you are cutting out hills etc. All of my foam terrain was made with a hot wire cutter for the most part.me_in_japan wrote:Too late, I know, but hot wire cutters are rubbish and only make your life difficult. I really hate the foam cutters I have used I would agree with MIJ on this one. Wow I never thought I would say that.

Like Prim, I like the hot-wire cutter for broad-stroke work like hill-sculpting.
Knives + styrofoam = lots of mess and a horrible, horrible squeaky noise. Worse than fingernails on chalkboards.

I saw mike the pikes hills today they looked very good an they were done with a foam cutter I still think you are better off with a band saw in a big shop but the way you use the foam cutter is very important.
