Braved the weather and put down black spray on my scout squad. Hopefully will be able to put brush to them tonight.

Today I diddled around in Sketchup some more. Apologies to Kbear for the lack of lelith progress, but I need to get this done before the weekend and the buildy people come over.

So, today's efforts:

view of gaming area containing hypothetical average sized person, viewed from hypothetical average person viewing height. Not sure why it's a lady *shrug*. (or maybe it's not. Maybe it's a long-haired dude. Hard to tell...) Note display case recessed into wall. The lack of legs on the table is down to laziness on my part, not some kind of cunning legless table design :( There's a sofa behind the table. You can see it in the plan view.

I noticed there was an eldar void raven bomber model in the 3d model warehouse. Meh, I can dream :D

A question: do you reckon I need the door by the sofa? Also, do you think I need more storage space/display space? Your opinion matters here, as I'm somewhat out of ideas. There's also the very real possibility that you'll find yourself actually in this room at some point (well, for an afternoon's gaming, at least), so you may as well make it comfy, no?

The sofa and the corner of the painty desk look like they will get in the way when gaming. My own view is that you need more storage space, because you always need more storage space. Whilst what you have planned may be enough for what you have now, you will probably be adding stuff to your collection for the next 40-50 years or so.

My own painting has been slow of late, but tonight I managed to get some paint on some Battletech minis, so I am making some progress.

I don't think you need the second door MiJ. It may offer more of a draft in summer but you'll probably find you never actually use it for going in and out.
I agree with Prim about the storage space.

What about asking the builders to make some cabinets to put under the gaming table?

the table is going to be movable, inasmuch as it'll probably spend 95% of its time in the cupboard. Given the amount of time I actually spend gaming, putting a permanent table in would be folly. As for storage space - yeah, I hear that. There will, however, be an underfloor space (about 1 tatami worth, which is pretty big, actually) as well as, yknow, other rooms, loft space, etc. Hopefully that should suffice, cos I cant see where else I'm gonna put things in the room.

Do your reckon the couch wouldn't get used while folks were gaming? I mean, ya gotta sit somewhere, no? I kinda stuck it in cos I thought it might be handy. Not sure where else to put it (we currently have 2 couches, cos our current living room is humungous. The new one will be a one-couch room, pretty sure.)

Thanks for the speedy suggestions :)

Nice room. I'd stick with the couch. While maybe you don't need it for gaming (maybe it will be a little encumbering for someone trying to get around that side) but I imagine your hobby room is also your "refuge" when you want to escape children, in-laws, the TV show your wife is watching, the bazzilion kids that come-over when your little one is in school, etc. Is it not so? A couch is going to be a lovely place to nap or day dream about models and games. :)

Also you need a high-up shelf with a lock on it for your bolter. Come on, you can't have that lying around in arms reach when your little one is older. :D

I resolve to lay my brush on some napoleonic models.

I am uber-jealous. Heck I'd just like a door for my own half-a-six-mat room, so I didn't have to worry quite so much about the two-year-old.

As for myself, I've been working on my scouts. I'm a bit intimidated by the terminators, so I may take a break and do up some orks when the scouts are done.
