Today I was up in Seki for a spot of Battletech with Colonel Voss. After losing the previous five games, I was finally able to pull out a win. :D This more to do with the good Colonel making some horrible rolls at the worst possible times as opposed to any real skill on my part. Still, I'll take it!

Did a little painting on some German infantry after dinner tonight. Not much, but progress is progress. I also spent some time on Warlord's website and pre-ordered the Armies of Russia book for Bolt Action and Albion Triumphant 2 (Waterloo and the 100 Days Campaign) for Black Powder. I also added a copy of Last Argument of Kings (the supplement for Black Powder covering the early 18th century such as the War of Spanish Succession and the French and Indian War) so I could get free shipping. All in all, a good evening's work. :D

With this in mind about age and getting on I've decided not to buy any more models. Simply because I'm 33 and have probably a 3 to 4 year back log of unpainted models to do. So giving that most peoples eyesight begins to fail around 40 that gives me enough time to get them done by 37. After that it's on to model railroad I'm afraid. I hope by then everyone will follow suit and this site will be called Railroad Hammer. ;)
At my ripe old age of 41, I've found my 100円store reading glasses to be the most necessary tool in my modeling box. I'll lend you a pair for when you are working on your HO scale trains. That is if there are any tiny details involved in model train building.
Not buying new stuff until you've finished the old stuff is a worthy goal. Impossible, but worthy.

Put some unit marking decals on some space marines.

Man, decal medium is wonderful stuff, but even with it those shoulder pads are a bear. Again, kudos to folks who paint dozens of them.

I hate doing decals on shoulder pads, the pads curve too much. When I did my Astral Claws I just painted the symbols on free hand.

You have to use decal set with GW decals. They are really thick. Even on a nice wide smooth surface like a shoulderpad is tricky. On a curve, you can slice a little sliver out of the decal, like if you were doing Ultramarines "U"s cut a little wedge out of the space between the arms of the "U". Helps it stretch around the curve. Also trim them as close as possible.
They are really crappy decals.

Trouble is, I love the look of the arrows and roman numerals for squad markings, but they look best with nice straight lines and uniform sizes that are way beyond my meager ability to freehand. :D The chapter symbols are freehand, and that's enough stress for me, heh.

My daughter is on holiday and she has been wanting to paint a miniature for ages. I ordered her some sisters of battle but still waiting. So, I sacrificed a dark angel from my new dark vengeance set. Not bad for a six yr old.
