Apocalypse 2

Looks like some stuff is starting to get leaked about the forthcoming (July???) release of Apocalypse Version 2.

Khorne Lord of Battles?

Necron Uber Monolith?

You can check out the BoLS thread on it here. Though it is mainly just nerd-gasms. :D

For those that are not BOLS members.

I think it looks like a Power Rangers villain.

I'm sorry. WraithKnight, I take it all back. You are not the oversized piece of crap I thought you were. That special place in my heart has now been filled by the Khorne lord of Battle.

It's so sad. The LoB should be such a cool model. Blood covered skulls. Big brass cannon. Screaming daemon faces, surrounded by the still-living flayed bodies of those who failed to reap their tally. Ossified tracks crushing the life from the pitiful meat-things caught beneath their mighty treads.Blood! Blood Blood for the Blood God!!!!

And what do GW give us?

A plastic action figure.

*sigh*

I almost want to scratch build one myself just to prove it can be done better...

That's not a Lord of Battles. It looks more like a Deathdealer, its little brother. And it's cool. If you don't like this, you fail at 40k. :P

Actually, I'm being unfair; sorry. I can understand if you don't like the particular styling of this Big Silly Thing. I've just seen too many comments in other places decrying the very existence of Big Silly Things in 40k, when to me that's what the setting is all about.

I'm not a fan of big silly things BUT I can appreciate that other people are. It's just a matter of personal preference.

That thing however is ugly. Anyone who says they like it doesn't deserve eyeballs. They should donate theirs to a blind person so that he or she can have them transplanted into their sockets and can join me in hating that thing.

If the big sillies were better designed I'd have less problem with their presence in the game. Of the lot, I think the riptide is the most acceptable, aesthetically. It at least looks the part. The other stuff (chaos zoids, WraithKnight, GK thing and the beastie pictured above) all look far too toy-like for my tastes. I think they don't fit the aesthetic of 40k. They aren't dark and gritty and horrible, which 40k absolutely should be (particularly the imperial/chaos ones.) They look like toys for 5-10 yr olds. I feel this dumbing down of the 40k aesthetic devalues the hobby, hence my somewhat vitriolic assessment of that mini up there.

"devalues the hobby" is probably the most hilariously pretentious thing I've ever seen you type. :D 40k has always been about the ridiculous as much as the grim.

I like this. The smaller Daemon Engines weren;t very interesting, but this thing is cool. The armour plates would look better in a more interesting red - the gloss effect on Forge World's Brass Scorpion, for example. The Riptide is boring; just a Battlesuit, only larger (cue Father Dougal; the Battlesuits are just far away).

I especially like the Khorne-rune headpiece on this thing. The rest of the armour plating could do with that sort of texture.

I agree. Most of them are pants and skidmark-ugly.

The aesthetic has been dumbed down indeed, but "devalues"? That is pretty pretentious
In that regard, it is no worse than Goff rockers that looked like Slash, or Santa Space Marines. The only real differences were that they looked good and were tongue in cheek. This however is not tongue in cheek and, apart from the tracks and khorney looking dozer blade, is pretty poorly designed in my opinion.
The rest of the armour plating could do with that sort of texture.
It could do with a lot more than that mate. I hope you have your donor card ready Andy. They'll be round for your eyeballs soon ;)

Meh, I'm not a huge fan of anthropomorphic tank design, there is really no reason to have a head or arms on a tank. This new Khorne doo-dad does look like a big kids toy. Personally, it doesn't rock my world, but I can see why some people would like it. The hull and tracks look well done, so hopefully it is a duel purpose kit that also includes a big gun turret option.

I think people need to remember that we are no longer GWs target demographic. The grim dark anti hero style has been replaced by big fun toys (tm). Whereas most of us hated the new daemon designs, the new players I spoke to loved them. Personally I'm all for letting people keep their eyeballs and making up their own minds about these things. I won't be buying one, but I don't mind if someone else does.

It does look a bit daft mind. :D
