My understanding is that Prohibition was enacted by a Constitutional amendment, and repealed by a subsequent one.

My mama said if you can say anything nice then you shouldn't say anything at all at least that was her suggestion.... As an anarchist the constitution is just a bunch of suggestions like the bible. If I want to carry a gun I will do it regardless of the laws of the land. My reasons are non of your business nor the business of government if you or the government want to take my gun by force I will give you the bullets first.
So everyone knows I do not own a gun but I think if someone wants one it is not with in my rights to take it from them.

An anarchist? So you essentially want to live in a country like Somalia? Good luck with that. Coming from a country where the government does tell people (most of them), that they shouldn't have guns, I can honestly say that some parts of America scare me.

Im in full agreement.
I would like to add that I believe there are too many stupid people in the world to just willy-nilly let them do what they want.

Sadly some of them do get elected. If politicians would actually work to make the world better rather than lining their own pockets or following their wacky agendas, maybe people would have a better opinion of them.Spevna wrote:Primarch wrote:An anarchist? Perhaps you need laws and government to stop you from rapeing and killing and robbing anyone around you but I do all the rapeing and killing and robbing I want to which is none at all. Anarchy is the highest form of govenment people living in a voluntary sosiety free of coercion by government and violence seems like a much better way of life. Just because I am in favor of people bing able to own guns does not mean I think all people should. Just like not all people should drive cars or sing songs. But who am I to force them to stop.

You're walking down the street. You see a big burly man kick an old granny in the back of the knees. She goes down, hard. He picks up her handbag, and gives her a kick in the head for good measure.
But who are you to tell him to stop?

Re: So...what exactly is this "constitution" thingy?
Who will stop him? Police? Lets ask ourselves; What should happen in if the thing MIJ described happen in front of some cops? Granny still gets kicked and still get her bag grabbed and still gets kicked in the head. The the cops react the grab the guy and punish him for what he did. In America he would get prosecuted for assault and robbery depending on how good his lawyer is he may not do any time at all if he does do time he gets three meals a day and a roof over his head he also learns how to be a real thug and will most-likely join a gang that is involved with all kinds of nefarious activities. But all this punishment and vigilance could not do anything to prevent his action in the first place. Now lets look at an anarchist society with guns the guy now has a gun so does the old lady and so do the people in the street. The guy draws down on the old lady who reaches for her weapon the guy shoots her and then he gets dropped by the three guys in the street who saw the whole thing go down. If the old lady was not mortally wounded the society is minus one thug and nothing more. However I wager that guys with guns would be less-likely to shoot old ladies if they knew they could be killed for doing such things. As it sits now killers and muggers are practically rewarded for their actions.

Spot on. If it wasnt for those pesky laws, I'd be out molesting, killing, and raping with wild abandon. Thank goodness for those pesky laws I say. What you posted is almost exactly what Penn Jillette said, but about religion instead of laws and government. In the case of religion, yes, I would say it is a fair point as most religions are just a collection of arbitrarily chosen rules, a lot of which have no relevance, place, or role in modern day society.Admiral-Badruck wrote:Perhaps you need laws and government to stop you from rapeing and killing and robbing anyone around you but I do all the rapeing and killing and robbing I want to which is none at all.
But if you are going to use the quote to discuss law, let us not forget that laws are not just there to stop rape and murder. They are also there to add structure and framework to society. They cover such things as inheritance, marriage, education, health, business practices etc.
Environmental laws and business regulation control how companies run themselves and the amount of pollution they create. London during the Victorian period was an absolutely horrific place to live and work, partly because of the lack of said laws. It was smoggy, polluted, and sooty. Children worked in factories where loss of limbs was not uncommon, all to line the pockets of fat cat industrialists.
I dont know about you, but I am pretty happy that the government (of my country at least) put an end to child labourers and mandated a minimum level of education. If that means more tax, then so be it.
Pretty weak comparison. Singing has never killed anyone that I know of. Driving has, but that is why we regulate it and licence it. Same thing should be done with guns. And before you say that it already is, or that the government has no place regulating what you should or should not own, I would say no it isn't as you can readily get guns at gun shows without having a background check. And as for regulating gun ownership, of course they should. Gun are designed for one purpose only, killing things.Admiral-Badruck wrote:Just because I am in favor of people bing able to own guns does not mean I think all people should. Re: So...what exactly is this "constitution" thingy?
The anarchist society where everyone has guns is all fine and balanced so long as everyone has the same guns. But they wouldn't (in fact, they don't). By your rationale, all a would-be-mugger needs to do is make sure he has a bigger gun than anybody else, and maybe a bullet proof vest for good measure, and he can mug to his heart's content. Or maybe he just plants a bomb on the sidewalk and and is a hundred miles away when it goes off. There are no police to chase him, so he just keeps on doing it. Anarchist society only works if everyone in it is basically a decent person. Some, most people even, are decent. Not all. Never all. It's the bastards in society that necessitate government, rules and police.
Personally, if we're talking hypothetical ideal societies, I like a dictatorship, run by an extremely intelligent person with access to all the information and who keeps the best interests of the public front and centre in every decision made. Clearly, such a person would never rise to be in charge of a dictatorship, but I did say it was hypothetical...
