What did you do today.
Re: What did you do today.
Did you use actual 40K rules in a BA frame, or all new 40k rules based on BA?

Re: What did you do today.
Bolt Action activation with 40k sounds like a great idea, which is why I am still eager for Rick Priestley's Gates of Antares to see the light of day- it seems that the most recent version is going to use the BA dice system, so we hopefully have a really playable ruleset with a sci-fi slant in time. If it's a flexible enough game, I could imagine some gamers jumping ship from 40k to a potentially more playable ruleset..I think at least less competitive gamers who lime the setting might feel more comfortable in the warlord fold, if that makes sense.
@Prim, re my BP collection. I have a few units to add, bought but as yet unpainted. After the hussars, I have some nice Perry voltigeurs as I need some skirmishers, and the Perry Curassiers for my heavy cav down the line. I will take stock after that and either expand more or have a crack at P&S or Hail Caesar.

Me and Prim were talking about this the other day actually.Lovejoy wrote:Bolt Action activation with 40k sounds like a great idea, which is why I am still eager for Rick Priestley's Gates of Antares to see the light of day- it seems that the most recent version is going to use the BA dice system, so we hopefully have a really playable ruleset with a sci-fi slant in time. The main strength of BA in my opinion is that is generic and can be used to cover many different periods. Generic sci fi would be more than doable with BA rules as is proven by the numerous blogs and posts by people that have done it. I reckon that once you try to cover more specific sci fi settings it would get a lot more difficult.
I think it is pretty obvious that I have no love for GW, or the 40K rules in particular but, credit were credit is due, they do a pretty good job of capturing the differences between the various races and weaponry. Capturing those same differences using the BA rules set would require a fair amount of tweaking. Saying that though, the FUBAR community have given it a pretty good go. I haven't tried their 40K supplements yet but would love to at some time.

Re: What did you do today.
@Badruck - So not really Bolt Action then, more like Vanguard 40K. Still, sounds like fun. If you were to shuffle both decks together, it would make the turn more random, but it still forces you to activate the units you draw. If you were to use the BA system, (ie pull out a token and then choose a unit), it would probably make psykers more manageable. You would have to decide if it is worth activating them first to get their benefits, but risk your opponent getting the next draw from the bag.
Hmmm.... I'd quite like to give it a try sometime.

Re: What did you do today.
The token-pulling thing in BA reminds me a bit also of the activation system in Epic 40,000, where you had a pair of tokens for each phase of the game, plus one extra for whoever had the higher strategy rating.
'Course, I'm also a fan of card-based activations. Confrontation had an activation system like the Admiral is describing (and magic-users used their powers when their own card came up, yeah), which I thought was a little too random. AT-43 even let you (made you?) choose the order you'd activate your units in before the turn started, with some command-resource-spending things you could do to switch up the order once the turn began.
(Basically, IGO-UGO is terrible.)

I would really like to try it with bolt action unit activation. Exactly how the BA RAW say to do it.
