Re: What did you do today.
Started painting the coats on some dragoons and some hussars.
I may need to find a manufacturer with less ugly horses than Baccus, though. Adler looks pretty.

At 6mm, no-one is going to notice when they are on the tabletop. The Other Dave wrote:Started painting the coats on some dragoons and some hussars.

I have to say 6mm Naps look awesome when it is done in grand fashion.

It I had to do Napoleonics again, I think I'd do 6mm. The scale looks appropriate.
On the other hand, you can't show off your hussar uniforms at 6mm.
@ Konrad: Those are beards to be proud of!

Heh. Point. I'll see how I feel when they're all done and based up.Primarch wrote:At 6mm, no-one is going to notice when they are on the tabletop. The Other Dave wrote:Started painting the coats on some dragoons and some hussars.

Re: What did you do today.
Spent some time poking around the edges of the rabbit hole that is historicals.
(What, anyway, is the difference between light hussars and dragoons in a post-1812 British Nappies list? Slightly different hats?)
Found that Rick Priestley's almost aggressively terrible website is strangely endearing.

Hats are indeed the big thing when looking at British uniforms. The Other Dave wrote:Spent some time poking around the edges of the rabbit hole that is historicals.

There are a few other subtle differences however:
-Hussars were required to have a moustache, no other British cavalry were allowed to grow facial hair.
-Hussars uniforms were more expensive and more elaborate.
-They also generally wore a pelisse, though not in warmer climates (like Spain).
There were different categories of Dragoons in the British army. At Waterloo, for example, the British fielded:
Life Guards
Horse Guards (Different from the Life Guards in which way they combed their horse's mane).
Dragoon Guards
Dragoons
Light Dragoons
Light Dragoons (Hussars).
For uniforms, I have found the following website invaluable:
http://centjours.mont-saint-jean.com/unites.php
Once you get used to navigating it, it gives you colours and examples for all the armies serving in the Waterloo campaign.
