Go for it!Mike the Pike wrote:@TOD: I was using the 1.4 list. 1.5 also shifts Overlord Armoured airships to a support detachment rather than War Engines. IMHO the huge War Engines really were what 'made' the Squats back in the day. It would be nice to have 3 or 4 at 3000 points rather than just the 2 I had. Mind if I try out 1.5 next time we play?

Re: What did you do today.
Today I finished building the last of my Bolt Action US Infantry, about 42 minis in all. Tonight I plan to start on one of my Tamiya Shermans, or perhaps a scout car.

Re: What did you do today.
yesterday evening i did no hobby things at all. This was due to there being 2 important jobs in the home that needed to be carried out simultaneously.
1) Hold the baby
2) Fill out the tax return
Guess which job I did?
In an effort to stay constructive, I made a start at organising the mountain of files I have on my PC relating to 40k and gaming in general. Damn but it is hard to stay on top of new releases these days, both in terms of novels and game rules. What, exactly, do GW expect people to do in the following situation:
1) Fan of GW buys Horus Heresy book 1.
2) Fan enjoys it, and proceeds, over the course of several years, to buy the whole series, as it is released.
3) GW decide, round about book 25 in the series, to stop releasing them in paperback, and go hardback first.
4) Fan thinks "hmmn. OK, I can wait another 6 months for the paperback version"
5) Fan waits, losing interest slightly as other distractions come along. Eventually buys the book in paperback.
6) GW takes it a step further, and releases the next book as an editions that one can only buy from either a GW event or a GW store. Then in hardback. Then in paperback. Fan is now very bored of waiting for the next part of the ongoing story.
7) And a further step: GW release books that are only ever available from games day/events. you cant even buy them online.
8) Fan decides that the $1500 round trip ticket to Games Day to get the next part of the story probably isnt worth it. Since his book collection, and ongoing story, is now missing bits, he decides that it isnt really worth worrying about anymore at all, and goes off to buy the new Neil Gaiman...
Seriously, does GW not realise that making it hard for people to buy their stuff is bad for business?

I've given up to making heads or tails of GW policies. I'll play the games but avoid making as many purchases from them.
In the mean time I continued with BA and DZC construction. Washed the vehicles today and continued to read the rules.

Yeah, I just check amazon periodically and see if anything is available. Last HH book I read was Betrayer I think. There have been at least a couple more since then.
Last night I started building a Sherman for my BA Americans. I managed a couple of wheels and the chassis so far, Tamiya kits have a loooot of parts. Hopefully I can do more on it today and maybe prime my infantry as well. I dropped about 4000 yen on Vallejo paints the other day to get the matching shades for the various BA minis I have to paint up. I must have about 1/2 of the Vallejo range on my painting area now.

I found and bought a brick-with-wings Thunderhawk off eBay, along with a pile of land raiders. Looks like the Black Templars will be the next project after my new year's stuff gets done.

GW is just a larger version of my boss. Illogical except when it comes to getting money anyway possible and even then how it is done is with a shotgun to the leg.me_in_japan wrote:yesterday evening i did no hobby things at all. Speaking of my boss, he's screwing me over and holding a third of my rent for March. Also have to train the new teacher the ENTIRE month of March (with no gas comp anytime I drive from Ogaki). Oh and I have to pick my replacement up tomorrow afternoon. They won't even drive him in to Seki. Oh and I found out for three years now my contract has been illegal.
Good news though. Signed my contract at the new school today. Met my new boss and many of my coworkers as well as some of my students. Looks good, though learning the new books are going to take time (really different style than I have seen before. Seems to be paying good results too!) My coworkers and a student are helping me move on Sunday.
Entertaining news. My boss cannot find at least one replacement teacher. Two of the office staff are ready to walk. And two of the other teachers are getting mighty edgy. I've offered them refuge if they decide to seek asylum from the insanity that is what my boss has become.
It's easy to die in the swamp. What's hard is to staying dead.
