Re: What did you do today.
Housebound due to the Typhoon and finally back in the country for a weekend, I managed to get through quite a bit on my Bolt Action jungle-fighting Aussies, with just highlighting and basing to go on the infantry and I should have more than enough for some BA action.
So many games, so little time....

School is out for the week, and I ended up doing a whole lot of nothing today. But in between the periods of nothing, I managed to finish magnetizing manticore / deathstrike #1.

Re: What did you do today.
Had to rip up the desert buildings scatter bases I made earlier because the bases were warping pretty bad - that's what I get for skimping on base material. Rebasing them is going to be a pit of a PITA / setback, but ah well. Overall it's a quick process when you get into the swing of it.

Is it easy to magnetize that kit as both?Dekana wrote:School is out for the week, and I ended up doing a whole lot of nothing today. But in between the periods of nothing, I managed to finish magnetizing manticore / deathstrike #1.

Not at all!
So far, it's been easily the most complex IG vehicle to magnetize due to the missile and missile rack parts being used in both models but in different ways. I followed a nice guide on on how to do it (link), but here's my own little photo guide.

The missile racks each have one magnet on the bottom (to connect to the strut that attaches to the hydraulic platform), and two on the top (to connect to missiles). Because the manticore uses 4 full missiles, but the deathstrike uses 3 or 4 half-missiles, the missiles need to be magnetized in halves.
---

Here's how to put the Manticore together. The struts are placed on the hydraulic assembly and aren't particularly secured to the manticore, but that sighting thingy in on top of them in the middle helps hold them down. The 8 missile halves get joined together.
---

The racks are put on top of the struts, and the missiles get put on top of the racks. The two magnets inside each missile are enough to keep them attached to the racks, but they're kind of wobbly. This isn't a model that you can really shake around or flip upside-down and have it stay together.
---

Now for the Deathstrike version. Instead of being put on the sides of the hydraulic assembly, the missile racks go right on top of it. The huge deathstrike missile has 5 magnets in it - 3 for holding a missile half on 3 of the sides, and 2 for attaching to the hydraulic assembly. (You're supposed to use 4 of the missile halves, one for each side of the deathstrike missile, but it's easier to save one of the sides to use for connecting to the missile racks, and it looks just as good.)
---

The deathstrike missile connects to the the magnets on the bottom of the missile racks. There's a bit of a gap between the magnets, so it's not a totally solid connection, but the missile stays attached well enough.

Re: What did you do today.
Thanks, that's probably going to be very useful down the line! Looks like a a lot of work, well worth it though to save a fair bit of cash. Deathstrike seems like it could be fun on the table.

Probably not something you'd ever need more than one of, but a fun toy to have probably. Most of the time it will die horribly but on those rare occasions it does get to fire..... Personally, I much prefer the Manticore though. It looks better IMHO and is a little more effective on the tabletop as it doesn't attract as much fire as soon as it appears.
