What should I name him? He needs it spelled out on his belt-buckle.

Ordered me the big F off paint set from GW!!! Complete with golden demon water pot, pliers and wet palletes.
Needed to get motivated and back into the hobby, nothing like new paints.

Dives behind big rock to avoid Spevna Magic missile. "Son, I am not happy".

you bought

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!??!?!?!?!?!??!!!!!!!!11111oneoneone!

Seriously. a 10 minute phone call to me and you'd have yourself a larger quantity of better paints and better brushes, too.

you'd also have a much bigger water pot, which at the point of purchase would probably contain coffee, which is an added bonus.

le mega eye roll...                 and one for emphasis

still, whatever keeps you happy, I suppose. I'm going to expect to see some actual painting going on now, mind you. I've got my eye on you

on which note, I have actually been painting recently. I've been working on some shipping containers. For the moment they're very much a work in progress, but I have plans, oh yesido...with a smidge of luck they and the 4ground buildings should be good to go by the time the 27th rolls around.

Pricey, true, but all paints are now. And they're undeniably nice paints. I don't think it's tooooo bad of a deal...
I can see the appeal in getting most of what you need in one fell swoop. Personally I like the look of the Foundry paint system, with the Dallimore inspired three paint shades (dark, medium, highlight) for each colour. Even more expensive though.

@Ashmie - If new paints gives you more enthusiasm for the hobby, then good for you! It's your hobby, enjoy it how you want. We do expect to see more ECW, Pulp and so forth on the forum though. :D

I spent last night putting some washes on a batch of Celts and assembling some terrain.

Thanks guys. Yeah I needed a Louis Vuitton to arrive in the post to give me that boost. Materialism at it's finest.
It does make me happy and quite excited to imagine those new paints in that tray sitting at my new paint station. Got to keep the mind busy. :)
You see second hand paints from MiJ would be lovely also but it would feel different, I wanted to do this and I actually like some of GW's products. There I said it. :) I like the case and the tray they sit in. Sure I could have saved money big time but there was something about hitting that big red button on their website that said Yes Ash you have earned this and you deserve a treat from the big bad wolf. Call me a masochist if you will, I probably am just that. :D Fhhhtassshh (whipping sound).

@ashmie - aye, I do know what you mean. Sometimes ya just gotta throw up your hands and say "feck it. I'm spending some bloody money on myself for a change." Enjoy them when they arrive :)

@agp - Vallejo. I'll grant that "better paint" is very subjective, but in this man's opinion Vallejo is easily as good as GW, and in some cases (metallics) clearly better. Also their pots don't dry out the paint, and you get way more in a pot for less money. Brush-wise, Rosemary&co, Winsor and Newton or basically any decent Kolinski brand is noticeably better than GW. Water-pot wise, I like large jars of coffee, because they're generally full of coffee when you buy em.

Most of GWs faults lie with the company trying to maximize sales/profits rather than the quality of the paints I find.

Vallejo have their good points and their bad. They don't rename and adjust the shade a smidgeon every couple of years and they do some good, realistic shades. (GW are no good for historicals). However, I find my Vallejo paints separate a lot more than GWs do. They can also suffer from medium getting stuck in the nozzle, so the first squirt of paint, even after shaking comes out looking like a wash. Air bubbles can cause the paint to pour up out of the bottle like a bleeding fountain as well.

Ah-ha! you say, stick a ball bearing in the bottle and it will help stop all that! GW paints can be used straight from purchase without needing to feth about uncorking pots and inserting metal balls. If you need to feth about with something to make it useable, that's a pretty damning review of the product IMHO. Don't get me wrong, I do like Vallejo paints, but as a stand alone product, they are on a parallel with GW.
