Cold Turkey-ish

Post by Mike the Pike » Fri Jan 20, 2017 10:46 am

Well, I did it. I'm out. Done. Finito. Owari!
I just put my 2 remaining 40K armies up for auction on eBay (The Valhallans and the Dark Eldar). It was a pretty hard decision but I really couldn't justify having two armies gathering dust on the shelf, only ever being dragged out for Naghammer etc.

Although our group is pretty immune to the current meta I just can't get enthused about a game where it's more about who's got the latest killer model or über formation. I much prefer all the historical games going on, plus Malifaux etc and of course my 'Warpike' Project.

I'll miss my snowy little communist IG and my purple skinned perverts because, let's face it, GW still make ace models. My Leman Russ and my DE Air Wing will be particularly missed.

I wouldn't say I am swearing off 40K forever, I might paint up some of the remaining DE stuff I have still sitting round. Or maybe I'll start up Ultramarines like Jus;-)

Now, I just have to figure out what the hell im going to do on Day 1 of Naghammer.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WHHHHHHHHY ?????

hmm actually, since youve unburdened yourself with the old stuff, now would be the perfect time to start a new army. Ultramarines are cool!
Also, if you need an army for nagoyahammer you can borrow one of mine if you want.

Oh man, that is like pow-right-between-the-eyes-stone-cold turkey..... I hope you get a pretty penny for them, as damn, they are some of the best painted armies I've ever had the pleasure of rolling dice against. And, hey, incredible armies like that should not be gathering dust on the shelf in captivity. Set them free back out to the wild, where they can frolic at Gamedays and Adepticon with other GW figures.
...and now his Head was full of nothing but Inchantments, Quarrels, Battles, Challenges, Wounds, Complaints, Amours, and abundance of Stuff and Impossibilities.....

You know, all this talk of cold turkey, is kind of making me go cold turkey too...sure there's a few games here and there. But there's just no passion. Maybe i should just sell my stuff like most people are doing...

I'm keeping my eldar (all FOUR armies of em) and am actually feeling quite keen for more 40k in my life.

Tbh, I'm feeling a bit sad that folks seem to be abandoning the game, psychologically if not physically. I mean, I don't blame anyone - y'all have very understandable reasons for doing so, I just feel...a sense of loss, is probably the best way to put it. Not sure I want to go there, myself. I spent a long time hating on GW (although the past year or so has improved my opinion of them greatly) but my appreciation of 40k as a setting never really waned. It's still the only game that inspires me to make dioramas* or big scenic bases and stuff. Other games are fun and all, but they don't seem to have the character that 40k does. I dunno. Maybe I'm just seeing it all through nostalgia glasses *shrug*

*not that I actually have, or anything, but the inspiration is there...

eh, y'know. Stuff, and things

Wow. And then Corona happened. Just....crickets, all the way through to 2023...

I did say "-ish". Neither of my armies has sold yet. If the upcoming changes simplify things who knows...
Those new Eldar models too....

I traded my RT orks with Lovejoy, but I've kept my Space Marines.

I may not be be keen on the current swollen rules ( avoided using "bloat" there mate, just for you :D ), but I still enjoying playing games set in the 40K universe. I have a lot of passim for the setting, just not the actual game itself.

Like all things though, there's are dips and peaks. What was onc out of fashion will be flavour of the month again someday.

Sell of the bits and bobs you aren't attached too, bit I reckon you'd regret selling off the lot. I know I would.
