It may be a little late for this as the spider riders have been dipped already, but some white stripes would look wicked good on the legs.

I wouldnt worry. I believe these 1:1 scale models actually apply paint to themselves, given half the chance.

It's an idea for the second batch!

As for the 1:1 project, all this talk reminds me of a story - my dad was in industrial hygiene at a paint company, and was part of the "poison call" chain for people who'd come a cropper with the company's products. He did in fact once have to deal with a call from parents whose kids had Dipped themselves - they were playing cowboys and Indians, see, and needed their little brother to have darker skin, and they had this nice dark-colored wood stain lying around... "Wait for a month or two" was all the advice he could give, unfortunately.

plz help...

I havent had much painting time of late, but I did take a shotty at the trim on the jackaccino. However, im not that pleased with it. The mochachocalatteyaya colour has to stay, unfortunately, as its almost exactly what i was aiming for and the blending is quite nice, if-i-do-say-so-meself, but the metallic trim is...odd.

fyi, the metal is:

bolt gun metal
shaded with multiple layers of purple glazes
shaded with further layers of red/black washes
highlighted with mithril silver
further highlighted with glazes of Mithril silver mixed with a kinda spectral green colour (menoth white+GW emerald green)

However, for that much effort, i was hoping for a more eldritch look. It just looks...garish. Should I repaint the whole shenanigans in good ol' TinBitz->BGM->copper->mithril (which is my usual cryx metal mix)???

btw, anywhere in the picture that it's going "ting" is because of paint, not actual reflection. mostly...

plz advise, o wise ones. And if poss, plz advise soon, as friday night is like my only half decent shotty at painting all month, pretty much...

*edit* garn. damn flash has washed out the lovely mocha colour. And the extreme close up shows all the notches n sTUFF. how embarrasing. Anyway. Do i stay with the green/red combo, or go back to good ol rusty iron?

You know I love you work MIJ but I really do not get this one mate I think it looks a noob job man I am not sure this the the technique you really want to use. I think you are still the best painter I know but your other stuff looks much better.. Sorry can't help you fix it but I am not sure what you are trying to do and if I could help you fix it I would not be getting a score of 4 out of 5 in the paint points department. good luck man I am sure you will work it out.

A second thought from me would be to use a bit of oil paint on put it on then wipe it of with a cotton swab let the dry and and other colors repeating the process.

Personally, I like it. It looks kind of old and worn, like you'd expect a big immortal killing machine to look.
I would maybe give it a black wash to tone down the garishness but otherwise leave it as is.

I'm voting that it's a neat effect and you should keep it. It could be the picture, but "garish" was not the word that came to mind - it does look rather like some kind of strange alloy / oily sheen effect or summat, which is fitting for the Deathjack.

Also, here are the fruits of my own labors. After many days, but not many actual hours of painting (I took a long break) here's the first of the two Skull Pass sets that'll be making up the bulk of my Gobbo force:

My only regret is that it'll be pretty much impossible for me to ever field exactly 100 in a battle...

It's actually also pretty much what I'll have for Escalation on Sunday - I need to borrow a couple spear chukkas from Prim and paint up two or three more spear-gobbos, another big boss and the army standard, but that'll take a couple hours at most. Whee!
