Re: What did you do today.
I think those crates look pretty cool as-is, sort of a comic-book texture. A whole set of terrain like that could be cool for a superheroes game.

Or a rather interesting diorama. hmmmm, not just mono-chrome, but all your shading is done with black-lines. I'll never do it, but would be a challenge. The Other Dave wrote: ↑Fri May 08, 2020 7:02 amI think those crates look pretty cool as-is, sort of a comic-book texture. This week was Valorous Heart. I kind of need Retributors to be good now because I have some sunk cost issues going on.
I think I have one more batch of Wave 1 to handle before I'm forced to face the Exorcists
Re: What did you do today.
I finally got around to painting those 40 Skinks I had sitting around. Went for the full contrast approach and honestly I think it turned out pretty good. Although I went for the controlled application sort of technique instead of just a thick coat so painting the details took a fair amount of time. Nazreg Yellow over Wraithbone makes for a pretty decent flat gold colour so I didn't even need to use metallics.
However, I'm stuck now after painting 10 in Terradon Turquoise and I'm not sure if I should paint them all in the same colour for uniformity or go with a different colour for each 10 Skink blob. The colours I'm thinking of potentially doing right now are yellow (Iyanden Yellow), purple (Magos Purple), and black(maybe Black Templar and Basilicanum Grey). I'm also contemplating leaving some of them as albino Skinks with maybe a light shade of grey on the back scales or something.

Looking good! Brush control and thinnish coats are very much your friend with Contrast paints, yeah. Finish up the bases and I'm sure they'll look fantastic when arrayed as an army.
As for color, personally I've always found that army cohesiveness is the most important thing - boring as it may be, sticking with the same color (or at least similar colors) for all of them will look a lot better on the table. (That said, white isn't really a color in this sense so a unit of white ones would look pretty cool I think.)

I tend to prefer cohesiveness so I'll probably end up painting them all turquoise even if its a little boring. The ablino look is pretty cool though so I might just leave one like that and use it as the unit leader or something. Hopefully I'll have a (mostly) painted army for AoS by the time we're done with this pandemic situation.

They look magnificent! I am just catching up on the new rules... Wow! Sister got a lot better. Wish I had a bunch. Now, where is the "throwdown" thread so I can challenge them?Jye Nicolson wrote: ↑Sun May 10, 2020 8:11 am

Well hopefully with the state of emergency rescinded the next game day is, if not soon, coming up on the horizon. Happy to throw down, but I would be concerned a Valourous Heart vs Deathguard battle might not end with any casualties, and in fact might not endBalloonacorn wrote: ↑Thu May 14, 2020 1:39 amThey look magnificent! @Karantu - Nice work on the Skinks. I like the turquoise much more than the white.
@Jye - Those sisters are coming along really well.
Recently I finished up a few models.
Some British infantry for the 2nd Anglo-Afghan War.

And a Dragon. It's about 10" long and over 6" to the top of the wings. The best part? It only cost US$15.
