My two yen:
I think the first Nagoya Hammer was successful precisely because it wasn't a tournament. The scenarios were good fun (even if I was teamed up with Jus :D ) With a little more publicity, I think it could be even bigger next time i.e. register with GW!!!!

It also attracted a lot of people because it was two days which makes it seem worthwhile in making the trek to Nagoya for out of towners. I wouldn't have gone all the way down to Beppu if the tourney had been a one day affair.

The mighty Prime also has a good point about the physical limitatons of having more than one game per event. While gamers that play Grey Knight Termies and WFB Chosen of Khorne may have no problems lugging around two armies, spare a thought for the poor IG/Skaven players out there. Last time out three guys came up from Kobe and stayed in a capsule hotel overnight, not exactly tonnes of spave to store armies.

I agree with all of Mike's points. Can't see a way round em, either.

I reckon all Nagoya Hammer needs is more publicity. get bloody GW involved, even if its only a wee tiny corner on their site...

We tried, unsuccesfully, to join the GW club site many times. The sign up process is all in Japanese and we had some trouble with various parts of it.

I really liked the "tournament lite" format of NagoyaHammer this year - by which I mean it was basically a series of friendly games but with an overall winner and painting prizes etc.
I'm all in favour of future events being similar.

I prefer longer (multi-day) events to shorter ones because of the traveling required. I also really like the "one day fantasy, one day 40K option". Although I'd have to choose my armies carefully to make sure I could fit everything in the case...

I voted for one day competative and one day chilled out.
I voted for WFB but I would be ok with any game with that set up.
Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

Me too. I think that option has a little something for everyone. One day to kill, kill, kill in a competitive spirit. One day to kill, kill, kill in a friendly spirit. Take you time, shoot the breeze while you roll dice, maybe try out a new game.
That being said, I dug the format of the last Nagoyahammer too. I liked the team play. A good way to meet new people and stomp on their toys.

Yeah, the team games were great. I'm hoping they're happening again next year.

I have had nothing but positive comments about the team games, so something will be happening along those lines in 2011 as well.

I'm starting looking now at maybe getting down to Nagoyahammer next year. How many points of 40K should I be aiming to have together to use? What's the usual number?

At the last event, points varied between 500 and 2000 for the two days.
If you cant field that many, there are several local players (myself included) who can lend you an army/models to make up the difference.
