Whole arms or heads in different colours stand out surprisingly well on Epic miniatures. In fact, that's the reason for the Blood Angels using helmet colours to distinguish squad types - the studio Blood Angel army for 2nd edition Space Marine was done like that to make them stand out easily on the tabletop. :) Non-metallic colours will probably stand out better than gold against steel, and a brownish-yellow will probably work best. Something like the old Bubonic Brown or the current Zamesi Desert.
I've got a bit to think, since I'm going to paint up some more minis before I hit them with the matte spray, but I'm actually thinking they look all right:

They look really good, and demonstrate that I don't know what I'm talking about. :)

As for the matt spray, it's not the end - nothing stopping you adding more details on top if need be.

If that is a Woodie ride, I can't imagine the first place to add bling to a steed. :D Maybe a forest dragon. Smaug, like.

Tonight I will break out paint again for my DAs.

We went to a wedding on the weekend in Kyoto. There was a lot of bowing and scraping on a grand scale. It was a lovely church and very authentic as far as these things go. I had fun trying to work out if the Priest was a real Catholic or not. We took Liam with us so it was his first big outing. We are exhausted but it was a great experience. This week I've got a few more interviews to go to and then I want to settle down and get some ECW done. At least a unit of firelocks would be nice to get finished.

Advanced Space Crusade shaping up nicely. Epic as well. When do you think it will be ready ToD?

Forget about yesterday, don't worry about tomorrow because all that matters is today.

ASC depends on getting my hands on Tyranid Warriors, as 5000 yen for a box of 3 from GW is just too steep. I have my ear to the ground and check eBay a bunch, and while you can pick up those 2nd edition metal Nids cheaply, and they would fit with my "acceptance of old-school silliness" aesthetic, metal doesn't fit with my ideas on transport. Sooo, I'm not sure.
