Maybe, maybe not. Being able to live in a foreign country and find people who not only have the same hobby, but are willing to travel to play the game, willing to spend the time reading my pointless forum posts and willing to invite folks to their house to play is certainly one of the benefits of the hobby being more widespread.Spevna wrote:Fair point. But the hobby has gotten too big. It was a very different thing when it was smaller. Growth has not made the hobby better in my opinion.GW could just have one webstore and nothing else, but that would probably reduce the number of new players entering.

I think the buying at local stores is only something you should do if the owner is a hobbyist if he is not then do not by a thing from him unless it is cheaper than the normal price. Basically retailers in Japan can not make money if we are buying everything from over seas... once the shop close down then what.... well like I said if the owner plays the game organizes events and teaches new people to play then they are doing a lot of recruitment for free. I love a game of 40k with some one I have never played before if I played every game agains the same guy lets say Prime it would get old fast. I am sure we would still enjoy the game but it would be a bit boring and we would miss play the rules more often than we do. I got back in to this hobby to socialize and meet people that like the same kinds of things I like.

A small update from Wayland.
The German GW Facebook page alledgedly had a mention of "Citadel Finecast" posted this morning, but it was quickly removed. Make of that what you will.Guys, we wont be making any sort of formal statement until we have received the terms, reviewed them in detail and had a chance to pass them to our lawyers for their summary and responses.

hmmn. I'm noting that the last entry - the avatar of khaine, is currently listed as 18.50 on the GW site.

theyre moving away from metal because its too expensive, and then...charging more for resin?
odd.
(but in no way out of character)

That is just.....I dont have the words for the level of anger I am feeling right now. I'm hoping that there is some massive typo or something because I really cant believe they're doing THAT!!!!!
Maybe those prices should be in dollars or something.....

Oh, well. If it is the end of the internet-International-shipping universe, I might begin purchasing the few GW things I get from Yellow Submarine. At least the money will be going to a local establishment.
By the way, this has no effect on Forgeworld models, does it?

Re: Monday the 16th - The End of the World?
*shrug*
well, over the next year or so, Im going to finish off my dark eldar army (needs plastics only anyway. Unless Drazhar is the single sexiest model ever produced, I aint getting him, and that was the only potentially metal model i was after.) After my dark eldar are done, then so am I. Itll be paintorama, a dash of forgeworld (new eldar stuff) and a sprinkle of PP. No more GW armies for me. I'll finish what I started, but I aint starting anything new. Dont need any more eldar, with the exception of wraithguard, and theyll be plastic or not at all when the new book comes out. If they have a new aspect warrior or similar, then i might consider it, but basically unless they reboot the entire eldar range, its gonna be minimal to no purchases from me. If they DO reboot the entire range, then itll be no purchases for sure.
although, as a sensible chap on warseer pointed out (yes, there is one!):
we dont have to chuck 40k just cos the prices have gone up. We all have waaaay too many figs anyway. We can just keep playing with what we've got. We buy to play, not play to buy, desho?
If we get rilly bored, we can swap armies for 6 months or something. That might be interesting, doncha think? Between us, we have almost infinite 40k variation, without sending a penny GWs way.

Re: Monday the 16th - The End of the World?
I can believe they are doing it and I'm not surprised. I told you all about my last shocking visit to the Exeter store. They couldn't sell to me so they didn't want to know about having a game.
As MIJ says it's totally in character for them. Treasure the days of early GW I say and look after what metal models you have. As Jim Royle would say "Fine Cast my arse"
They've been ripping us off for years with the rewriting of the rules and the army books over and over again, lets face it the games up. Lets make our own rules and stick to them.
