I actually enjoyed Grymwatch and Edge of the Knife - I kept a lot of board presence and could do a fair bit of what the deck wanted, but I wasn't able to stop you from doing anything and lacked the oomph to keep pace. So not too bad but no fear that newest is automatically best

Can't underestimate Suzuki-san either, my timing errors were my own but I certainly felt the consequences!

Having a hard time meaningfully thwarting your opponent's plans is definitely a hurdle for the kind of swarm warband Edge of the Knife seems to want you to take - all those two-sword 1-damage attacks pile up. Or don't, I suppose. I think crewcut guy whose name I haven't learned yet was on to something using the deck with stormcast, although since I was using the Looncourt I couldn't really do enough damage to his guys to trigger the tempered state and let him get the most out of the deck.

Which makes me think of counterplay again - since he knew I had EotK too, he probably wanted to take down my two-wound fighters and leave the more-dangerous 3-wound fighters around, since they'd have been able to a) damage him and trigger tempered, and b) not easily use any of the tempered cards in my own deck. Instead he gibbed my boss and the squig rider right away, which meant I couldn't hurt him (but also... couldn't hurt him) but still left me some play with my little guys running around standing in meaningful places.

ETA: Yes, the ghouls not dying was definitely a bear to deal with. I even slipped into 1e thinking and assumed the bats couldn't come back but nope, it's everyone!

New warband and rivals deck going up for preorder in presumably a week or two! The elves don't speak to me, either in terms of models or rules (that they've showed us), but the rivals deck looks neat - deck churn and draw play are always anywhere from useful to powerful in a game with decks as small as Underworlds has.

My prediction had been that, as we're six months in, we'd be seeing a new re-release box and the retirement from organized play of some of the grandfathered warbands (their pledge that anything you can play in tournaments would be available to buy from GW is looking a little iffy ATM, especially with Zarbag apparently continuing to smash the metagame), but I'm not sad it didn't come true, especially since warband rotation has zero effect on our local play.

Just a reminder that our next Underworlds meetup is this coming Saturday, starting when the store opens at 11. As always, Underworlds-curious folks (or just people who have a free hour on Saturday afternoon!) should feel free to drop by for a game or two with Jye or myself.

Another fun Underworlds day last Saturday! The next warband and rivals deck also went up for pre-order that day, but after poking into them I may pass on both. The elves seem eminently playable and probably a lot of fun, but the models do nothing for me, and the rivals deck looks like they might have looked at the potential overpowering nature of a card draw-focused deck and reined it in a little bit too far. OFC that's based on the usual podcast armchair analysis which also said that the Gardeners wouldn't be very competitive so who knows?

All the same! Next Underworlds game day will be Saturday June 14th at the Warhammer Osu store, from 11 until we get tired and go home for dinner. Looks like July will be an off month as the second Saturday happens to fall on the store anniversary weekend!

I'm looking forward to both the team and deck but yeah thinking I better keep some staples in my cases as I'm not sure they'll carry a full day of play while maintaining morale

Had a great time on Saturday but having some of the real strength of a few teams and decks I'd tried a little bit not really gotten my head around demonstrated to me is a sign I maybe shouldn't just play all new all the time (you'd think I'd have learned my lesson from 40k)

Yeah, after the breakneck release pace of mid to late season 1 and then the content dump that started season two, I think we now have the luxury of the first "stable meta" we've had in a good long while, and it might be worthwhile to just sit with some warbands and decks for a bit. Not sure yet if I'll stick with just Ylthari and the Gardeners, but both those warbands do seem to be just right for me in terms of both complexity and durability.

Forgot to update the thread since there isn't a meetup in July on account of the store anniversary. :D

Next Osu store Underworlds meetup day will be August the 9th! The latest information I have is that it'll be the "closing ceremony" for the league currently going on, but I'm not entirely sure. Still, with any luck we should have a good turnout - 17 or 18 people ended up taking part in the league, and hopefully that gives us a bit of turnover into the monthy meetup community!

Good time had by all at the Underworlds meetup today - we got our league loot, which was mostly acrylic tokens and some promo art cards, but it did mean we had some new-to-us faces.

September's Underworlds meetup will be Saturday the 13th, and we'll be doing a casual little Nemesis tournament. No prize support or anything (unless the manager surprises us with something), I just thought it would be fun to try a different game mode.
