Thankyou all your expressions of support/encouragement/suggestions and criticism.
However, I would like to ask everyone henceforth to post contructively, and on topic, which would be templar or paint log related.
Please respect the thread and stop badruk bashing and or starting off topic debates. I got this paint log thread idea off carpe noctem, where people post the progress of their armies getting painted, which I think is a great idea, and everyone here should start their own paint log.
But It only works if people post relevant stuff otherwise the actual log posts will be separated between with a sea of unrelated posts to get to the actual content.

@ mikey , yeah in hind sight I should have put those hurricane bolters on the front, but I liked the look of it better from the back. Its too late now, they are cemented into place. I guess one of the advantages might be that the opponent will think that since the guns are further back they might misjudge the distance and wander into the firing range....yeah thats not a very good advantage, since you really want to be in rapid fire range.
That and the landraider crusader is more of a defensive transport tank rather than offensive and is meant to make a bee line toward the enemy lines. They will usually get into range before long.
@ badruk : I have a droppod ready for priming. I've only ever used it in a game once, and that was a long time ago. Black templars are supposed to be renowned for drop pod assault, but with the 5th rules, I don't know how feasable it would be. Being a sitting duck for a turn kinda sucks but I still want it in my list. I'd probably go for a shooty squad in that pod as opposed to cc boltgun crusaders

A few things about Drop pods these are just my own preferences I like drop-pods with the doors glued up... it saves time painting them saves time on placing them.. but that is entirely up to you.
as for how they play I like it when my enemy puts assault troops in them and lands right in the open... and really hate to see a very mean shooty unit dropped out of a drop-pod...any unit with lots of fire power is good... I like dropping dread naughts on people... I am really thinking of getting a second drop pod just so I can deploy a second dread naught on them...

Sadly shooting and black templars dont really go well together. Templars can shoot as well as standard marines, but have no overwhelmingly shooty units like Sternguard. Black Templars Dpods do benefit from the old Drop Pod rules rather than the new ones in that they deepstrike from the 2nd turn rather than the first. This eliminates the possibility of the enemy not deploying anything and podding down into an open table.Admiral-Badruck wrote:A few things about Drop pods these are just my own preferences I like drop-pods with the doors glued up... it saves time painting them saves time on placing them.. but that is entirely up to you.

Drop Podding Dreads will probably be the best bet for BTs.

Re: The Eternal Crusade - progress log
as a non-marine player, i hate drop pods. They are very much adherents to the "one is so-so, two is deadly" school of gaming. Three would be murderous, if used correctly. The reason is:
1) 1 drop pod lands near me. I go "agh" and shoot the crap out of its contents. The end.
2) 3 drop pods land near me. I go "aaaaaaagh" and try to kill em all. I fail. I get shot and charged horribly.
If you drop a dread, a unit of sternguard, and a unit of assualt marines near me, then I have some hard, hard choices to make. Do I attempt to get rid of the assaulty unit, and allow the shooters to whale on me for not one, but TWO turns? Do I try to kill the dread, and avoid getting charged by it? But then, what about the assault unit? It's a lose-lose-lose situation. If youre kind enough to drop your pods right in front of units that can deal with teh contents, then fine, but if you drop a dread in front of my basic infantry (or assault units, generally), assault marines in front of my fire support, and shooty guys in front of my HQ, then Im in deep doo-doo.
Seriously, with a few well-placed drop pods, the only thing an opponent can do is run for the hills and attempt to regroup.
I'd advise against em. They're rubbish
ps, if you do get em, id say glue em doors-up. Dpod doors are a pain in the bum when theyre on the table. Most tables just dont have the open space necessary to deploy them completely, and it becomes a game of "is it really there or not?" and "can I shoot/move through that?" and so on. Best off just glueing em up. Easier to transport, too.

1 Lone pod, dropping a dread down where you need it on turn 2 or 3 can make a huge difference. If you're packing infantry into a pod, use a lot of them as they wont cause a lot of damage when they land. I was looking over the Templar Codex and I noticed that you can get Tank Hunting terminators and put them in a pod. A S7 assault cannon and S5 stormbolters will make a mess out of the rear armour of most tanks.me_in_japan wrote:as a non-marine player, i hate drop pods. Re: The Eternal Crusade - progress log
hmm cool ok, I'll stick with one just for now. I had considered, a sword brethren shooty squad with multi melta and melta...or even just crusaders. Bah i dunno, I need some hands on experience....I need to play 40k aaaah
Re: The Eternal Crusade - progress log
Dont put heavy weapons into drop pods because you cant use them when you disembark. You may only get 1 turn of shooting, so make it count.jus wrote:hmm cool ok, I'll stick with one just for now.
