Yeah, despite not really finding Agent too much of an issue (for some reason i didn’t come up against him very often?) I definitely won’t miss him. (Btw, I actually bought a paper copy to put in a commander deck, so that’s something for you to look forward to  )

Fires, again, is a pain in the ass. That said, my main deck I’ve been using lately is esper control with yorion, and it actually does ok with Fires - Elspeth exile saga and Mortify do good work against it. I actually managed to exile/destroy four copies in one game, once. Felt good 8-)

Tbh, the only gripe I have with this BnR is that Winota didn’t get the chop, too. Even if she’s not cheating in Agent, she can still kill you with straight combat damage in turn 3 or 4, if she gets lucky (in historic.) Dat shit needs sorting out. (Also, there’s potentially a way for her to cheat out an Ulamog, but frankly if anyone ever pulls this off, I say they deserve it...)

As for companions, they needed a good kick in the ass. I’ll need to wait a bit and see how it plays out, but a 3 mana tax and making em wait a turn seems reasonable. Making it sorcery speed seems like the biggest issue, to me. I’d’ve preferred instant, but maybe that would’ve been too easy.

Ps - I made it to Plat 4 in constructed and silver 3 in limited. Satisfied with the former, less so with the latter. Me and Ikoria draft didn’t really get on particularly well :(

My thoughts are that it looks like a damn strong set. There's some very powerful cards in there which will really, really shake up the Standard meta. (and also Commander. Dat Teferi! You can activate him in every player's turn! Whaaaaaat?!?!)

I'm actually kinda torn as to whether I should maybe even buy a box of this set. I know it's folly to buy boxes to get cards for value, but there just seems to be sooooo freakin many good cards in there (so far, I'll grant you) that it's maybe silly not to? I dunno. I shall ponder it for a bit. I'm already in for a bundle box, plus 2 packs when they actually start selling packs (for a total of 12, for sealed or draft), but I maybe might possibly get a box, too. Hmmmmnnnnnthinkthinkthink...

also, Containment Priest. I see now why Winota wasnt banned... :?

Yeah, Containment Priest seems like a good answer to a few cards.

Te4eri looks less annoying than T3feri, simply because his static ability doesn't shut down a large part of the game for an opponent. The phasing thing is also somewhat less irritating than the unsummon effect. Any attached cards remain attached, rather than being sent to the graveyard. He'll be awesome in Commander. 4 +1s could be great, especially in a graveyard focussed deck. At a 1 in 99 card though, he isn't an automatic game over.

Rin and Seri look like a fun, tribal build around. As a buy a box promo, they'll be a bit pricey in paper. Add in Pack Leader for additional fun.

Ugin looks awesome if you can cheat him into play for less than his cost. Two turns of Lightning Bolt and then Ultimate, or just a very powerful board wipe.

Vito is going into a few of my decks as soon as I get a copy.

So yeah, so far I'm happy with all of the previewed cards. Powerful, but not busted. Of course, only time will tell. AoT was around for 11 months before getting banned.

So many awesome new cards (and draft chaff) coming in the new set. It looks like there are some pretty decent cards in the common/uncommon slots as well. I think I'm probably going to pick up a box.

Also, I bought 15 packs of Ikoria and wound up with 3 Skycat Sovereigns. 2 were standard rares and one was a bonus foil. I think WotC is trying to tell me to build an Azorius Flyers deck in paper.

Oh, and it looks like WINota just got suspended in Historic.

Hmmn. I’m oscillating wildly between “I’ll just keep the cash and spend it on Commander stuff” and “ermagerd, grim tutor!”

*sigh* i dunno...

Also @Winota - hah! Don’t let the door hit you on the ass on the way out!

Good riddance.

Incidentally, I was lucky enough to pick up the 5 Guilds of Ravnica Guild Kits recently (in Japanese). Partly just for the special art on the guild leaders, but mostly for the lovely lovely lands. Got the lot for 4000en, which I was very happy with.

I guess it depends on how much you want duplicate commons and uncommons for your decks. Buying a handful of specific singles for a Commander deck is obviously a lot cheaper, and one box probably isn't going to get you all the rares you want. That said, some singles are very pricey, so getting one in a booster feels like you've saved money.

It looks like the previews for Jumpstart have (jump)started.
http://www.mythicspoiler.com/j21/
At the same time some of them have been (jump)stopped.
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2020-06-17

I can see why Exhume and Reanimate might be cut, Historic would literally be 50% Ullamog Reanimation and 50% Graveyard Hate.

Scourge of Nel Toth seems like a pretty good rare that would also fit into a reanimate style deck, but I'm not sure if it needs a ban on Arena.

Time to feed isn't that different from any of the other Green 'fight' spells, so I really don't get that one.

Hopefully the next State of the Game will have more info.

State of the game is up, and it's... all good news?
https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/a ... 2020-06-23

Reprinted Rares are duplicate protected until you have every other rare in the set.

Brawl is now always on.

MacOS version is available (I don't have a Mac, but more players = shorter queues).

Jumpstart drops in a few weeks and super-powerful cards have been replaced.

Rotating cards are no longer in the ICR pool. Interestingly they mention an Historic ICR pool???

Amonkhet is coming in August.

New options in the deckbuilder.

Woo!

#edit#

Having given it another read through...

...It's still nearly all good news.

Sadly it seems that Jumpstart will be an event rather than a permanent queue. I guess it'll be fairly common or available for a while given how many cards are in the set and the effort to program them all. It's also due for release at the same time as M21 Draft will activate.
Since the schedule is:
June - M21 - 250+ cards
July - Jumpstart - 300+ (non-reprint/M21) cards
August - Amonkhet Remaster - 300+ cards
September? - Zendikar Rising - 250+ cards
I guess I'm going to have a VERY busy summer. Between pre-orders, sealed, draft and mastery pass, I have been able to get most sets from M20 nearly Rare complete. I honestly don't know how I'm going to cope with what are effectively 2 oversized sets being squeezed in to the release schedule. First World Problems!

Yup. All of what you said. The thing I’m happiest about is ongoing Brawl. Despite not actually playing it all that much recently, it bodes very well that they’re choosing not to monetise it and just let it be.

The thing I’m most concerned about is, like yourself, the number of new sets dropping imminently. I’ll be drafting M21 when I can, but how I’m going to get the jumpstart stuff I don’t know. Amonkhet I may draft, but I’m mostly excited about building a Hapatra brawl deck, and maybe a historic Scarab God deck, so I can probably wild card those without too many issues.

Incidentally, I made Diamond last night. Quite chuffed, actually :)

Ps, If at any point you should find yourself in possession of any real-life zombie lands from jump start, I would be Very willing to take them off your hands. Just saying :D
