@Mij- man, those tentacles look like they might really reach out and grab you! Either that or be a tasty, chewy bit of sushi.

Wikipedia? No, all of that is taken from books, well pdf copies of books, but books nonetheless.

That's the thing with historical stuff, everything has 'fluff' if you're willing to put the time in. :D

Today I put a khaki basecoat on some British infantry and a brown wash on some Malifaux minis.

@ MiJ: I believe you are on your way to dethrone the Prince of Purple, or maybe become the Prince of Purple and Pink! Lovely blending of colors.

Working on Skitarii Vanguard.

Today I finished the bugbears for the frostgrave warband. Lots of nomnomnom on these guys. Bit fed up with painting various shades of goldish-brown, so the next mini I paint will probably be nekkid. So if you're easily offended, best put on yer blinkers and look away :P That said, painting this warband has really made it clear to me how little I understand light and metal. While I'm (optimistically, perhaps) reasonably satistfied that the minis look OK so far, the gold bits don't quite hit the mark. Some bits are ok - generally the bits with adjacent multiple plates of armour (the shin and forearm armour, for example) but things like the kneepad and the acres and acres of scale mail are defo not right. It's been a useful learning experience so far, mind you. Can't complain :)

I know, I know - why would anyone ever make an axe out of gold. Be totally impractical. Meh. Magic axe?

ps - I'm noticing a lot of reflectivity in the brown I use for the deepest shades. I might give em all a once over with matt varnish at some point to neutralise the satin effect. Kinda yucky, imho. Interestingly, the NMM is made of 4 colours. The deepest (brown) is mahogany by VMA. The other three (ochre, lemon yellow and ivory) are all scale 75. It really shows how matt the scale 75 paints are when you mix them like this. You can see the reflections most in the leather straps over their shoulders.

Lovely stuff, if a snarling 8foot tall fanged monster can be lovely. Nice work on the nmnnnmnnnn? metal. I agree the bits on the axe and larger plates are excellent. The scales...maybe just a bit of highlight on the edges for contrast?

The next one will be nekkid ? I don't think I want to google "naked bugbear" and see what you have planned.....

And speaking on nekkid figures, I've been slowly getting buckles and belts and breech cloths on the Digga chicks. I broke off the carefully, painstakingly sculpted little throwing axes I had one holding while sawing her arm off so I could finish up some shield straps. By accident but just as well, they would have broken off eventually anyhow and I ended up scraping the arm off the shield and re-doing it anyways. So now I'm carefully and painstakingly carving little hand axes out of plastic. I need to start making a plan when I do this stuff instead of just hit-and-miss experimenting away.
Came across these most helpful and inspiring videos and have watched a couple so far. Wish I had seen these a few years ago.

I like the Bugbears, though yours have a lot more bling and swag than the ones I did a couple of months back. I found them really easy miniatures to paint. Lots of nicely defined details which took washes well and a nice mix of textures on them. (Skin, armour, wood, fur etc).

In an unlikely display of speed painting, I have finished a small, naked tiefling. Those of a sensitive disposition vis a vis boobies probably should look away now...

aaaaaand a big space so folks can not have it spring up on their screen at work or wherever...

This was a really nice mini to paint. Great sculpt, with the facial features particularly well defined and easy to catch with a brush. Also, very tiny, hence the speed painting.
