'lo all. Just sticking my head in here to say howdy and that I havent buggered off or anything. Just been busy/sick (with a cold) and otherwise engaged in non-hobby stuff. Big props to Prim for painting more stuff in the past few months than I have...well, in my life, probably and to everyone for keeping the hobby wheels turning. I hereby resolve to getting a shift on with my painting and finishing two elves in the next week or so. Ganbaru...*MiJ gets his shift on*

Well, after the madness of the painting challenge and a brief break from the brushes, I have started painting again. Over the past couple of days I have put down some base colours on some Anglo-Zulu War minis and started building a new mini for my 40K army for NagoyaHammer. I'm not sure if I can get it finished, but I hope to as (IMHO) it looks awesome.

Wow yeah those templars are smoking hawt, and those necromunda minis are GINORMOUS. I went and got a box of House Delaque for blanchitsu mania and they are ridiculously big. I mean ridiculous.

Anyhow speaking of Blachshitsu...

Since taking baby steps into the world of 40k rpgs, I've been perusing some really cool artwork and thinking to myself, wouldn't it be cool if we had a mini of THAT guy. Well the way I see it is, either we wait for GW to (maybe) eventually push something onto the market or take matters into your own hands and sculpt it! I've been tinkering with sculpting and must admit, its alot of fun! With a little bit of putty a whole new world of possibilities opens up.
Take this adminstratum schumck for instance, converted from a zombie catholic priest and other bits.

The vellum comes out of the ipad on his chest, because thats just 40k, and ipads are tech heresy, but data slates ...aren't.

exhibit B is a noble, the bottom half of the coat is all putty, which didn't turn out to be a total disaster.



which in turn got me trying out something a little more ambitious like a trench coat. Now you see alot of noble/officier types in artwork sporting trench coats.But the model range is somewhat lacking in the trench coat department. Shame. Or is it?





A re-purposed empire crossbowman. I had a whole box lying around. It's good to finally make use of them.
This one I'm thinking maybe, a middle income hive worlder. Like a banker or docking intendant who can't afford an augmetic eye.
Wonder what I should do with the next one. hmm

@Jus - Those conversions are awesome. I love the data-slate and parchment, very 40K. The IG plastic stormtroopers come with an optional trench coat I believe.

@Jus- Hey! Puttyin' in fun isn't it? Nice work on that Noble. did not notice those boots and trousers were scratch built at first glance. Especially if you did it with that white Tamiya putty. I think I built a couple Squats with it years ago and it's worse than green stuff. Even more chewing-gum goopy. The real deal is Pro-create with a mix of anything from 20-50% regular Millitput. I sometimes mix in Aves instead of Millitput if I want it to set up quicker, but usually I need the time. And a pack of black silicone clay-shapers. Clay-shapers will change your world.

I can't stop puttying. I invite everyone on the forum to give it a try! It's fiddly, and takes practice but it's very rewarding. I'm sure konrad would agree.

Oh the nobles legs are from an rmpire canoneer, i just sculpted the coat part
You know I haven't actually tried any of the other putties on the market. White tamiya is doing alright by me for the time being. Moreover Im actually liking it a lot more than brown tamiya, I find it works best for sculpting clothes, which is what I've been doing alot of. Tailoring. Make them look smart.

Hmm yeah I might have to pick up some clay shapers, but I also have a growing list of minis that I need to buy ( for bits)

Nice work on the sculpting, Jus! As you say, it's fiddly but really rewarding when it all comes together. I second Konrad's recommendation of pro-create mixed with milliput. God's own putty, that is. Clay shapers are very useful, and great for smoothing out stuff like coats or armour plates or what have you, but never underestimate the humble hobby knife and toothpick. You can get a lot out of those. Also, if you get a chance, a set of wax shaping tools is a great thing to have (these are made of metal and come in a variety of shapes - rounded end, wire loop, sharp angle, etc. Great for things with harder edged shapes, and situations where you just want the putty to frickin' move somewhere.) Good luck on your sculpting odyssey!

Can you get procreate and milliput in Japan? I'd try it out, but I've still got a hundred coats worth of white tamiya putty to play around with.
