I managed to build and prep all the new Ossiarch Bonereaper models in the box set. Hopefully I can prime them today and start painting them soon.
Not sure what I'm going to do with the Morghast though.

The Necropolis Stalkers (4 armed skelies) turned out pretty good and weren't too much of a paint to put together. The Mortek Guard (normal skelies) were pretty easy to build too and there's a little bit of wiggle room for posing their swords. I'm not a huge fan of the joint for their shield arm so hopefully that turns out alright when I'm putting them together after painting them.

@ToD - Nice work on your Underworlds' minis. The mix of blue and white on the ghost looks great.

@Karantu - Congratulations on getting your Skele-golems built, I'm looking forward to seeing them painted.

This is the fastest I've gone from buying to building to painting in a long time. I mostly used Contrast paints and I think it turned out pretty good. It helps me paint faster for sure since I'm usually really slow. I'm probably going to do some dry brushing once I'm done with all the base colours, especially on all the bone areas. The swords are supposed to be bronze (Balthasar Gold) but I think there was some separation in the paint bottle and it didn't turn out that good.

Looks great, and such a fast turnaround! Is that Skeleton Horde for the main colour?

I finished basing my first lot of marines today, which means they're ready for Nagoyahammer! They could certainly use some drybrushing, better detail work, and someone who knows what a wolf head even freaking looks like to fix the shoulders, but they are definitely battle-ready/

There's another 20 Intercessors, 6 Aggressors, 10ish Terminators, Suppressors, Inceptors and the looming danger of Start Collecting: Vanguard to go. Which is even without vehicles way more points that I'd ever need for Nagoyahammer, just good decision paralysis fodder right up until I decide to play Sisters instead.

@Jye Nicolson, Yeah I used Skeleton Horde over Wraithbone spray for the main colour.
The Space Wolf colour scheme looks great as always. Are the yellow shoulder pads Contrast? I'm still not able to paint a decent yellow using traditional paints so I might try some using Contrast for yellows next time.

Good luck trying to resist buying more stuff, I've ended up going off the deep end with the new Ossiarch Bonereaper releases. And even if you start a Sisters army, at least you would've gotten plenty of practice painting your Space Wolves.

The yellow is normal Aveland Sunset. I tried Iyanden Yellow (Contrast) over Space Wolf Grey and it did not work. Now that I've learned not to paint in the shoulderpads I'll try Iyanden again over straight wraithbone but I don't have high hopes.

Nice work on the painting, Jye and Karantu! I reckon they'll look the business when they hit the table. @karantu - are you going to be basing your guys? If so, what style? (I'm a bit of a basing nerd. I loves me a well-based mini :P )

As for me, today I spent a very pleasant time in the company of the other Dave (whom I shall call Dave, as per his request  ) and Spevna, over in Chez Spev. We played 6 (! :o ) games all in, which is absolutely unprecedented. 3 of Warcry, and 3 of WH Underworlds. The takeaway from all the games as:

Warcry is a very fun game, but its scenario generation leaves a bit to be desired. Actually a lot. Maaaaybe we got a really edge-case set of cards, but all 3 of our games were basically over by about halfway through turn 2. By which I mean, someone had sufficient VPs that it was numerically impossible to beat them before the game ended. Additionally, many scenarios seem to involve 1/3 to 1/2 of your guys setting up so far away from everywhere that they'll never affect the outcome of the game. But, that said, the actual gameplay itself is very good, and we all 3 agreed that with a bit of elbow grease and making-up-of-our-own-scenarios, it can continue to be a game we'll play plenty of. So, a positive outcome overall :)

Underworlds is awesomesauce. I have pretty much nothing bad to say about this game, except perhaps that I will now have to split my time between deck building for magic and deck building for this. *shakes fist at GW* Damn you GW! My time is finite! Finite, I tell you!!!

So yes, many thanks to Dave and Spev for a great day of gaming :D

I'm planning on trying something out using GW's crackle basing material. A miniature isn't complete without a base so I'll be sure to post some pictures once they're based and done.

@Karantu & Jye - Great progress guys, keep 'em coming!

@M_i_J - I'm very much in favour of anything that detracts from your MtG deck building time. Go Underworlds!

Last weekend, I spent both mornings on a town cleaning day (Saturday was prep and Sunday was the cleaning), which is about as exciting as it sounds. After that I didn't feel much like painting, but I managed to get a couple of layers down onto the current contents of my workbench. Fingers crossed I can get more done this week.

Nice work! I do like those bone guys more the more I see them.

Sunday at Fort Spevna was indeed a lot of fun, although part of me wishes I could have also gotten up to Ichinomiya to put my titans on the big board with the "100 mini knights" thing they had going on. Still, WarCry was fun (although, as mij notes, we struggled a bit with getting some of the scenarios to work), and Underworlds always is, especially when you're getting to terms with a new warband, to wit:

Image

I finished these ghosties up just in time on Saturday afternoon - a super-fast paint job even for me, 4 days or so from bare plastic to finish. I tried something new, giving them a rattlecan zenithal spray of white over a black undercoat, and in general I like how that worked out. It's a bit speckly in places, but not at all obvious from any more than a few inches away, and it helped a lot with something I always struggle with, keeping colors bright with my preferred black undercoat. Compare to my other ghosts:

Image

...which look fine, of course, as I leaned in to the dark shades the black undercoat allows, but the difference in brightness is huge, while a black base under the zenithal still allows for nice dark shadows on the banshees. Doing a zenithal with rattlecan and not an airbrush is a bit finicky, but it's certainly another tool in the old toolbox. (All pretty basic painting techniques these days, but still.)
Feel free to call me Dave!
