Thank you, most interesting!Primarch wrote: ↑Tue Apr 28, 2020 9:10 amA medium is a liquid used to thin down paint. A bit of white, some paint thinned down with quite a lot of contrast medium, and bang.
Paints usually have three components, Pigment (the colour), Binder (keeps the pigment on the surface) and Medium (helps the pigment and binder flow onto the surface). Adding more medium dilutes the other two parts. Adding contrast medium to normal paint would make the paint flow more like a contrast colour.
You can also get gloss and matte mediums (From Vallejo and other makers) that make the paint more glossy/matte as needed.
What did you do today.

Re: What did you do today.

Yesterday I finished the assembly backlog created by Sisters Wave 2 and Space Wolves hitting in the space of two weeks, aggravated by a spot of Covid panic buying and interrupted by Final Fantasy VII remake.
(I haven't secured magnets yet so the Centurions and Invictor aren't quite done yet but close enough).
Today I started on the *painting* backlog to finish off the Sisters from the collectors' box and wave 1, which hopefully I'll be able to put a solid chunk of time into over Golden Week. No real rush but it'd be nice to have them done by the time I can organise this lot to be primed.

Skaven reinforcements for Warcry - I'm not sure if they'll make my team strictly better but it'll certainly be more interesting than just thirteen plague monks.Balloonacorn wrote: ↑Wed Apr 29, 2020 12:01 pmGreat collection - what are the models in the lower left corner?

Been happily puttying away. Started a 3rd version of that Digga Dinosaur rider and another Digga idea I've had in the back of my head for a while. Also been musing about putting together some Mah-reens of some sort. A Deathwatch Kill team would be a great...killteam...for ....Killteam. Lots of cool kitbash opportunities. So of course I spent an hour looking at "true-scale" marine conversions. Because you know I'll have to do it the hard way.
Maybe I'll just do them all Bigmarines. Came across this guy in my ramblings. Mental! I don't think I've ever seen kit-bashes quite this outside the box.

@Konrad - Thanks for the link. That guy has some mad skills. If you need any (small) marine bits for your big marine project, let me know.

Re: What did you do today.
Finished up the first of my Iron Golem last night, again going for contrast base + acrylic highlights for NMM:

The gold is looking OK, but I should actually look at some youtube videos or something for the steel rather than just fudging it.
(I did put a very light brown shade in the steel bits.)

A Skaven warband! I gotta ask, as they are a hoard army in Fantasy, how does a 'small' warband play in Warcry?

They actually have a lot of options, they have quite a few supported kits, from the tiny "giant" rats up to the Stormvermin.Balloonacorn wrote: ↑Sun May 03, 2020 3:20 amA Skaven warband! I gotta ask, as they are a hoard army in Fantasy, how does a 'small' warband play in Warcry?
My team is:
- Plague Monks, *extremely* good little horde units that have reach, speed and very high crits. They are at the very least highly vexing to the enemy, good at capturing objectives, and can sometimes luck out into big damage.
- Giant rats. These don't do anything but are cheap and fast, so good for board control, bodyblocking and generally taking up a lot of activations so most of the enemy's turn has already happened before I need to activate anything important.
- Rat Ogres, probably 2. These are heavy hitters, you can buy ranged weapons for them but I think it's a bad deal. These can dish out the pain, and if you're focusing enough fire on them to take them down, all the little gribblies you're ignoring to do that should have the run of the place.
- Packmasters, probably 2. These have an ability to let the Rat Ogres attack again, so potentially excellent action economy.
I believe they'll be a very strong team but I've only had limited pre-plague experimentation with them.

A bit different from the usual but I tried my hand at making modular dungeon tiles. I basically followed some youtube tutorials and I think they turned out pretty decent. Just need to make some doors and scatter terrain next.
