Is it a tournament or just a big get-together? And is it very competitive?
It’s somewhere in between a tournament and a get-together, in that the 40K day is a series of three games where wins and losses are tracked and somebody ends up with the best record and “wins,” but it’s really just a very very casual excuse to get a bunch of local and semi-local people in a room and have fun playing and also get some beers the night before. Not very competitive at all, in other words.

And the open play day is even less so.
