which is the easiest faction to play in Fantasy / 40k

Post by TirNaNog » Tue Jul 09, 2024 2:36 pm

i wouldn't mind putting a small warband together something easy to cart around for skirmishes , wouldnt have to spend a huge amount of and would give me something to do when avoiding the heat outside this summer break. this leaves me with the question of which faction to pick , id most lieky default to ork as i havent touched any of the newer beast boys stuff and its super cross compatible with the fantasy range ...but i really really like the new flesh eater courts stuff id love to give them a goofy neon halloween colour scheme to contrast with there disgusting sculpts, however im not a player and havent got a clue where to start after not playing in decades .

can any one reccomend a faction thats easy to pick up the rules to fantasy or 40 k with ?

For 40k I think Custodes is probably easiest. They have a simple gameplan, simple Army rule and the Shield Host detachment just makes the army rule better. The units are tough and forgiving of mistakes, and there's not many of them so list building is straightforward. The main problem is figuring out how to deal with enemy vehicles and monsters, but the solution is pretty similar to everything else - get into melee and throw dice at it.

Orks can be played in a similar way but usually aren't as tough, so it's usually easier to get them killed, but they are pretty good and running up the board to krump folks will work fairly often.

Age of Sigmar is getting a new edition this week so I really don't know who will be easy to play. Faction packs should be released this week and are free downloads so you could check whatever interests you and see if the army rules aren't too complex.

Rule of cool. What do you like? Far more important than rules that can change edition to edition.

Ive decided to go with orks , Ive checked around and i can pickup a combat patrol, but looking at the standard "goff" patrol verses the "beast snagga patrol" i cant decide on which is bext value for money im inclined to say the "goff " patrol is better value but i dunno what are peoples opinions ?

I think the Beast Snaggas are better value because they have squigs. Squigs trump everything.

More seriously if you want the previous patrol, grab it. It was replaced by the Beast Snaggas so will become more difficult to find, while the current Combat Patrol will be widely available for at least the rest of 10th edition.
