I think its because they are pointing in a different direction to the natural 'flow' of the model. Everything else (helm, back thingie, leg spikes etc) are pointing up the body, whilst those are pointing forward. Perhaps if they were more like mandibles, they'd be ok as the helmet does kind of jut forward at the bottom. This is all just my opinion as an amateur model painter/converter.
Regardless, the paint job is aces.
