Kill Team
So, a bunch of us have been playing around with a small-scale version of 40k. Rob came up with the rules, and full credit to him, they work rather dang well. It's currently being referred to as "Kill Team" as thats what the nearest equivalent was called back in 4th ed. However, for those who havent played it yet, its a wee bitty different from 4th ed KT. Ive played in maybe half a dozen games of it so far, and theyve all been great fun. Its not intended as a serious challenge of your 40k skill. Its just a bit of fun at the end of a day's gaming. It runs thus:
230 pts taken from your codex of choice.
no HQ
no vehicles (we're considering opening this up to allow things like sentinels or piranhas, but at the mo, no vehicles)
no psykers (possible exceptions being 1000son chappies and eldar warlocks, but try not to stretch this rule too far...)
no 2+ armour saves (again, under consideration)
no 3+ invul saves
no monstrous creatures
no squad size restrictions. If you want to take half a dozen exarchs, then thats ok. Likewise 8 marines with plasma guns is fine too.
The player with the least models in his team chooses to set up first or second. When setting up you can put your models anywhere on the table. There are no pre-set squads, but any models within 2" of each other count as being in a squad together (this is identical to independant characters). The second player to set up sets up as though all his models had the infiltrate USR.
to start the game, roll a dice and add your army's average initiative. Highest score goes first.
last man standing wins.
you can play with 2 or more players per table. Its fun and fast (me and mus got through 2 games in an hour today, although to be fair Mus's dice rolling was stone dead abysmal.
What do y'all reckon to getting in some Kill Team from time to time?

Re: Kill Team
Or you could just use the 'Kill Team' mission from the new Battle Missions book.

Morituri nolumus mori!
Re: Kill Team
But that would involve reading the rules and you know what Orks are like when it comes to reading rules.Mike the Pike wrote:Or you could just use the 'Kill Team' mission from the new Battle Missions book.

Re: Kill Team

Re: Kill Team
i have to agree with badruck on this. Its not about using the "official" rules. I have read the battle missions book, but since i cant remember what the rules were for kill team, they cant have been that impressive. Rob's rules, on the other hand, just work. Thats the kicker for me. Everyone I know who has played it, win or lose, has had fun. Thus, it doesnt really matter what the "official" KT rules are like. Rob's are fun and everyone likes em. Lets use em

Re: Kill Team
The only official Kill Team rules I have read are the once from WD that had rules for brute squads and other sundries. They were, as m_i_j likes to say, meh.
Rob's idea is not "meh".
Rob's idea is good.

Re: Kill Team
The Killteam rules in battle missions are similar except that Rob added 30 points, said you cant have monstrous creatures but you can have any number of models with any gear and left out the specialist troops rules which allow you to give any 3 models any USR you like.
The battle mission rules dont have rules for forming mini-units if you're in 2" and let models with more than 1 shot split their fire. They also have 1st turn based on a neutral roll off so the genestealer/slaanesh/eldar player doesnt go first 90% of the time.
