Overcrowding at Joshin

Regular (and irregular) events in the Nagoya area can be posted up here. If you want to get your gaming fix, this is the place to look first.

I don't think you need to be a woman to host an event at the women's center; I think the event itself has to be deemed worthy by their committee or something.

The Kokusai Center building, while not really advertising their rooms as being rentable, have a ton of event rooms that are largely unused for most of the year. Although it's less convenient for Prim, for out-of-towners it'd be much much more convenient. AND the rooms are massive; they're about the size of the BIG room at the Kanayama events. I'm sure if you asked to rent them, most of the time they'd say yes.

Look, a link!

EDIT: I say most of the time because they have events scattered through the year, like the bi-annual book sales, the photo exhibitions, etc. They don't judge you or anything.

As for location the aichseinenkan looks the best but the price makes it abit out of reach for us. Maybe I can get a church in Nagoya to open there hearts and doors if I can swing that it would be free. But never would Sundays be an option. I will look into it if you all would like me to.
What on earth are you talking about? :D

I only included the Seinenkan for nostalgia's sake really. It is definitely NOT the best option. It's not particularly well located and pretty expensive. There are other places, which I linked to which are cheaper and seem to fit the requirements. As for a church, the free bit is nice but the no Sundays is not.

I put the links to the centres out there mainly to show that there ARE options out there. We MUST not do anything until we have talked to the Japanese guys.

@Miggy Smallz: I looked at the NIC but the rooms are just a bit too expensive. The lecture rooms are about the right size (18 tables) though. It's one to keep in mind. Cheers.

I looked at the NIC when I was prepping for the first NagoyaHammer event. Their prices are ridiculous. Likewise Aichiseinenkan is overpriced too.
The Suisin place looks good though. Without looking at the rooms it appears reasonably priced. As a rough estimate for table space, assume 3 chairs per table and 3 tables per gaming table (assuming they are like the ones at Joshin. That means for every two gamers, the room should normally hold 9 people.
E.g. The Suisin link has a room for 36 people, that should be 4 full tables. The 66 person room should fit 7 tables.

Thought just popped into my head. Is the last Sunday of the month the only day the Joshin room is available? Sort of assumed it is. But if not, hey just run two game days.

it looks to me like there are just as many people that want more events as there are that want a a bigger venue. I know I am the guy that opted for the last option on the list so... I think it is up to me to break the tie... I vote we hold more games days I am sure it will help our cause... It is something I have been hopping to do for quite some time.
Now I have the time free from work it may take me a few months to get it sorted out but I will be getting it done. Problem solved just as soon as I can get in touch with the people that can help us.

@MTP if you want to talk to the Japanese guys go right on and do it. I am nominate you minister of Japanese relations..those in favor Aye those opposed. *crickets chirping* looks like the Ayes have it.
I would however like to know why we would have to open a line of discourse to Kondo and Maeda. They are our friends, If we are going to open up new days of gaming wouldn't we just have to invite them out for some gaming?

This strikes me as a pretty nice solution, if it's doable.

There is one big problem with having two events or more per month. Will they both be sufficiently supported, in terms of players and money? We had 14(?) people the other day at Joshin, which at 500 yen a head, gives a total of 7000yen to play with. However if we are renting out a place (Joshin or otherwise) twice a month or more will there sufficient players at both events to cover costs? What happens when only a handful of people turn up and have to pay through the nose for a rented room? What if everyone turns up at one event and not the other. One will still be overcrowded! The others out of pocket.

Another point to think about is what will happen to events outside the big city? I think it would result in less support for gaming days outside Nagoya if all the action is located there. This is why IMHO that one main event a month at a bigger venue (plus other non-regular games + private games)is the way to go. We can focus our time, energy and finances accordingly.

@The Madmiral: <sigh> I think we DO need to discuss things with the Japanese guys who aren't on the forum. It would be quite a nasty surprise if we changed days and venues without even consulting them. It wouldn't be much fun turning up one Sunday to find there are only 3 people there and having to split the cost of the room appropriately without getting a game in. Maeda-san has already commented on this topic (Page 1) and seems to agree that move onwards and upwards is a solution, but only if it's change for the better.

while part of the point of this change is to get more games in, its not enough that random, faceless "games" happen. an important part is that folks get to socialise. if half of us go to game 1 in the month and half go to game 2, then we'll have effectively split into two gaming groups. i think its v important for us all to be able to get together at the same time once a month, occasional individual unavailability notwithstanding.

we need this debate to find out when and where is good for everyone, because if we dont talk about it, and go off and book something without getting everyone's OK, then someone is gonna end up left out, and that would suck. It'll take time, but the debate is necessary.

*edit* just a thought: Do Joshin have a bigger room?

If we empty out a sales floor.
They have a place on the 5th floor, but thats full of RC tracks and stuff. It'd be ok for Gorkamorka though.

See MIJ do agree occasionally :D

If only we could guarantee 6 tables everything at Joshin. We had 5 the other but other days only 4 and at times we have had only 3 and 2/3s. Where do these tables come from and where do they go? They don't appear to be on the shopping floors anywhere as they are too crowded.
