I'm really itching to get started on 'em - they're sexy beasts (with Wraithgates no less). But this month is goblins, so they'll have to wait till July.Primarch wrote:me_in_japan wrote:He'll probably have them painted before you as well...

there's no "probably" about it. Of course, I would have my super heavies painted up if I wasnt slaving away, nay, labouring, sweat dripping from my hard-working brow, painting a model for someone else...

man, I sure could use some of them thar wraitgates in 40k. Yet Forge world insist on releasing grot tanks. Honestly guys. Get the finger out, stop faffing about with orks and yer so called space marines and get the imporant stuff done. First yon super heavy with the wraithgate, then a phantom. And a warlock, if ye dont mind. and then some exodites. Thatd be nice. Finish up with the Slicing Orbs of Xandros. Jobs a good un. Come on now - get to it! chop chop!they're sexy beasts (with Wraithgates no less)

My own motivational results:
Lord - Done
Dragon Princes - Done
Bolt Thrower crew - almost finished.
Just my Battle Standard Bearer and my Lion Chariot to do. (Wish I had painted it before assembly now, it looks very intimidating to paint).

Re: Painting Goals Motivational Thread
OK, no pics, and just a quick update on Corax.
Got a bit hacked off with hin today due to a debacle that resulted in large portions being re-painted black (his power gloves, amongst other things). However, a spot of re-reading of some OSL articles on that most venerable of grimoires the CMON forum gave me fresh insight into some light-related jiggery-pokery. End result: A mostly repainted tabard and a fairly decent right shoulder pad. Ive also put a couple of layers on his left glove where it reflects the light from his right glove.
Now, I have a question for the science minded amongst you:
Starting from an all-over black basecoat, how would I differentiate between black armour and white armour using only whitish-blue paint? The light source is monochrome light blue, so logically the only range of colours would be from black to white through blue. How would the white bits look different to the black bits? more extreme highlights? more long, drawn out highlights? I aint sure, meself. And that's not even considering things like red purity seals or beige tabards. Its all a bit tricky for my poor brain at this time of night. Nurse! My medication, please...
~~~~aaaaaaah. that's better
*edit* this is a near-perfect example of what I'm kinda gunning for, the only difference being I'm wondering about adding some colour to small details. Or should I stay monochrome like this chap did?
ps - the base on that mini is freehand. FREEHAND! dear god. My painting sucks...
Freehand? Dear lord that painter is either god-like in his skill or has more free time than anyone else on the planet.
Looking at your laser pointer pic and the Ramos picture, I guess you should make the white a lightish shade of blue/grey. The black under the light should be a dark blue/grey and the shadows straight black. But of course, you knew that already. Instead of thinking in terms of white, beige, red, black etc think solely in terms of light-dark bluish grey.
To be honest, I have never tried anything close to what you are talking about and I am sure it will look amazing when everything clicks into place.
Re: Painting Goals Motivational Thread
Finished my Bolt Thrower crew and threw a coat of paint on the lions pulling the chariot. I also started painting the bases of my silverhelms.
4 more days to go and I still have to:
Paint the chariot
Paint my Battle Standard Bearer
Paint all the bases
Attach sand to the bases and paint that
Attach flock to the bases.
Think I can do it? Place your bets now!
Re: Painting Goals Motivational Thread
Not specifically a goal for the month of June (my work schedule doesn't allow for such precision), but my current painting goal is to paint all my WoC up to 2250 pnt and start painting my 30k Word Bearers (should be easy as i only have six models so far
)
So far, the following have been base coated.
12 Warriors (several have the base color scheme)
1 sorcerer of Nurgle
10 hounds
5 Marauder horsement
1 sorcerer of Slaneesh
Still needing base coat
5 Knights of Chaos
Needing shields glued on
16 Marauders
Needing assemblage
16 Marauders with flails
