WELL, which cheaper plastics did you actually have in MIND? I'd convert sticks and plaster INTO Blood knights, but THEN, it would likely look like CRAP.

The models are quite nice, and I wouldn't be hacking big chunks out of them at all. A head swap here are an arm swap there is all I'm talking about.
Brettonians? Empire? Both are quite a bit cheaper than the Blood Knights, and with closed helms, you'd never know they didn't have sharp pointy teeth.

Or these?

Some facts and figures to chew on. :D

Th price of various Eldar figures
1) when they were released in 2006 vs.
2) The current price vs.
3)the projected 20% price increase:

Codex: 1) 12.00 2) 17.50 3) 21.00

Battle Force: 1) 50.00 2) 51.25 3) 61.50

Dire Avengers Box: 1) 18.00 2) 20.5 3) 24.6

Falcon : 1) 25.00 2) 25.50 3) 30.60

Striking Scorpions: 1) 18.00 2) 18.50 3) 21.60

Farseer: 1) 7.00 2) 8.20 3) 9.80

Call me an apologist, but it would seem that apart from the codex, there has been very little increase over the last 5 years (1 vs 2), certainly far less than other consumer items. The reported 20% is rather more significant though OR is it?

I took a look at the US Consumer Price Index for the periods above and found some interesting stats. The CPI is a measure of a 'typical' shopping basket of goods and services averaged, indexed and cross pollinated :D across the United States.

Here they are, make of them what you will...

1) November 2006 2) April 2011 3) Approx difference %

All Items: 1) 201.5 vs. 2) 224.0 3) 11%

Food and Beverages: 1) 197.2 2)226.24 3) 14.7%

Fuel and Utilities: 1) 190.6 2)217 3) 14%

Gasoline/Petrol: 1) 190.3 2)325.0 3) 71%

Energy 1) 180.4 2) 253.0 3) 40%
Now, I know these stats are for the USA and not for the UK but I am willing to be that they are similar if not higher. In fact energy costs (electricity and gas) are set to go up by 7% across all areas of the UK in the next wee while.

Remember the fact that tin (the key component of pewter) prices went up between 400-500% over a comparable period and doubled in price in the last year alone.

Are GW really such bread heads or are they just keeping up with market forces that are far beyond anything they can control?

Sure Spevna :D can't buy as many models as he used to with his monthly geek budget but then again he can't drive his car as far, heat his home for as long or scoff as much as he could 5 years ago either. I'll bet he is also wondering why his pint glass is looking suspiciously less full than it used to.

Just saying, that's all. :D :D :D

You know, the other day I was at a Yoshinoya, eating some beef sukiyaki for 280en, and looking at the pictures on their walls. One image was of a Yoshinoya from maybe the 1980s (black and white pic, but the structures reminded of me of something from that era), advertising cheap gyudon for 300en. That means the price of approximately the same dish has fallen or stayed relatively the same for the past 20-30 years.
I was also commenting on coffee and food prices with my father once over the phone. He was giving me prices for goods in the late 80s that are approximately the same.
I think we maybe living in a society and economy that has seen a price deflationary cycle for some time. It probably helps warp our views.

Why all the babbys cryin?

A sh*tty company got even shadier. What, the new codexes every month didn't set off any bells or whistles in your head?

Using yoshinoya as a measure of currency rate is a bit silly. Especially the price of gyudon from the bubble era vs. the cheapest gyudon on the market now.

Jus is a Menite so everything he does is wrong and bad. ;)

The new Strange Aeons books are out this month so you should all be happy!!

Comparing 2006 with the present day:
My salary in 2006 - 3,120,000 yen
My salary in 2007 (after I left Nova) - 3,300,000
My salary now - 3,425,000

So thats an increase in my salary of nearly 10% over 5 years, and that was mainly because I switched jobs. So, nope, still cant really swallow a 20%+ increase happily no matter how justified GW may be.

Who asked anyone to be happy about it?
Me no like either
I just thought that this issue needs a little perspective. That's all. Sure it's sucks a big one but rampant global inflation is hardly GW's fault, is it? It may have been a bit dumb to hit non-EU customers with a double whammy like they did but hardly worth blubbing over.

@Ennui: Calling GW a sh*tty company is a bit rich coming form an iPhone/iPad owner IIRC :D :D :D
I don't recall any mass suicides at the GW plant in Nottingham or finding any insidious tracking devices in my miniatures.

I don't think that GW is a sh*tty company. I think that they are doing a good job developing their games and its fiction, surviving in the business for so long. I know other companies that have done much worse, their certainly are companies that would do so much more worse if they would be in GW's shoes so I am not going to whine about the price raising, just buy a little less.

OH NO YOU DIDNT!!!!!!!!

Hah, just kidding. But seriously, what does the fact that I choose my electronics for their aesthetics, reliability and convenience have to do with the fact that GW has been reaming its customers for years? I think mass suicides is a little overblown for a couple of whackos that offed themselves at a supplier for one of the largest electronics manufacturers in the world.

But it does sound like plenty of their customers have been cutting themselves over the past week!

In any case, I wanted to point out that I have nothing to contribute to this conversation other than to say "I knew they were crap a long time ago" and I really wanted to say "Why all the babbys cryin" because I laugh everytime I read it out loud in a funny voice.

Then there's Apple's famous service. ;)

Loyal Customer: "When I hold my iphone in a certain way, the reception/signal cuts out. What should I do?"
Apple: "Don't hold it that way. Duh! Or if that's too hard for you, buy a 3rd party plastic bumper. Geez, customers. What a buncha morons."
