Progress update for my 2nd Oni sculpt.
I am aming for a much more dynamic Kabuki theatre inspired pose this time.

A leg is taking shape.

Lower body sculpt finished, except for clothing which will come later.

Okay, next update on 2nd Oni.

I ran out of Tamiya Smooth Surface putty (white stuff) so I had to switch to Quick Type (orange stuff) which actually turned out to be easier to work with, given that I kept it wet all the time.
As for the progress, Amost done with the upper body except for hands which will be done separately this time and some details and of course the most important part, the face. I am especially satisfied with how the back musculature turned out.

you clearly have a far better working knowledge of musculature that me, and by a large amount, too. All that muscly stuff seems impossible for me to do. Conversely, I quite enjoy doing wee fiddly bits like robes and runes and pouches n whatnot. I also think that the pose on this chap is much more interesting than the last one you did. Be especially careful with the final position of the hands and eyes. Those pretty much control the dynamic of the mini, in my experience (speaking from a conversions point of view, i might add, but the principle should be the same.)

I think we both found the same FAQ tutorial online, even right down to using a cork base. Just curious, though, what gauge wire are you using? This is fanTASTic.

I agree with all the stuff that M-I-J said.

I would suggest trying a different medium instead of the Tamiya stuff. it is much harder to work with than Green Stuff and brown stuff. I sculpted a couple of things out of Tamiya stuff and while it turned out alright, I felt like I was making my own life needlessly difficult by using it.

Thanks for the advice, I will make sure that I pay extra attention when making the eyes and hands.

I watched a few videos from this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bRxvPk85 ... ure=relmfu and then got started but that is all. There are many parts and I didnt watch them all.. I was too eager to get started sculpting. For wire I just bought some random copper wire at Tokyu Hands, one that was easy to bend and not too thick nor too thin.

Yes I agree, from my experience I think that GS is probably better and I would use it too if it was as cheap and easy to get as the tamiya stuff, but I actually got very used to tamiya putty so I dont mind using it really.

Wish I could remember but I already threw away the package.. :|
I would say that the thickness is maybe around 0.8 mm in diameter, I paid a few hundred yen for the bundle I think.
If you will come to the Joshin event then I can give you some.

Just finished the main body of the 2nd Oni.
All that is left now are the hands which will be sculpted separately and holding double weapons or a weapon, I havent decided what kind of weapon yet, if you have any good suggestions feel free to tell me, I might go with the Kanabou again.

As I compare my first sculpt and this one I can see improvements. I spended more time on details with this sculpt, for example the blood vessels on his arms which were very fun but aggrevating at the same time.

I also did some gap filling on the legs which is why he has got those orange lines.
