What to get my hands on?

Post by Seb » Wed Aug 03, 2011 5:37 am

Hello y'all WHFB players.

Just until recently I was struggling trying to decide if I was going to get into WHFB or not, Strange Aeons is an awesome game but not many ppl play it in this group and WHFB has gotten so big that I can't resist.

Anyway, the topic I want to ask about is what is a good unit to get next for my WoC army.
I currently have:

1 chaos lord
24 warriors of chaos
10 chaos hounds
5 chaos knights

It is hard for me to push this up to 2000 pts so I need something more, any advice on what to get?

I would suggest a unit of marauders, maybe 30 or so

I would say don't rush yourself. If you are new to WHFB, I would suggest getting games in as you progressively expand your force. This way you can see what works and what doesn't, and what your force needs to balance it or create something really mean.
Moreover, it will give you time to paint as you go instead of getting overwhelmed. --> ie. My situation.

Maybe get in some games at 1500 points before jumping to 2000.

I could agree with Voss that maybe you need more rank models. That, and/or a sorcerer for magic.

I think you should play at low point levels until you get enough Experience to really know what you want... then you should just get what you want.. I have never gotten models just because they are great in the game I just get what is fun and what fits the lore of my army.

I think the list you have is pretty much what most of the youtube gamers use, except they may have a mage and an extra unit of Marauders. Some also have a hellcannon.

Have a watch of the youtube games using a search warhammer fantasy 8th edition chaos vs and see what you like.

I have a small table at home that we could use to play a small skirmish game of maybe 1000 odd points and I may have some time when I get back from Malayasia. So let's try to organise a day or two of trail games, if you like. :)

Hmm, well it seems that everyone has given the really obvious advice so allow me to chime in with something different.

Buy one of everything (or two or three). Get it all put together and then buy a second army before you get the first one painted.

Terrible advice I know, but as I said, all the good advice has already been given. :D

Well, it isn't all that bad advice because once you've collected that second army, you can trade your first army away to a friend in payment to get your second army painted!!! :D

Actually, that was my 3rd army and my 5th army, but I can see your point.

hahah

Thanks everyone!
I will definitely play some 1500 pt games before I am buying anything, after that I I will see what to do.
I don't like the marauders because they are cheap and weak but I guess you need some unit of those to not get outflanked?

If you are highly mobile, I don't think you'll be out flanked. Light calvary could also provide a screen for your flanks.

Anyway, I'm just saying that there are many approaches, and you may want to pick a style that suits you.
