Our Armies (or The Motivational Thread)

Post by me_in_japan » Sat Aug 27, 2011 3:50 pm

I've been feeling a bit demotivated when it comes to painting recently. I'm back at work after the summer vacation, and I've been spending a lot of time watching TV (which I usually hardly ever do) and playing computer games (which I sometimes do do, but its a phase thing).

Anyway, I decided I needed to have a Think about my hobby, so with a view to seeing what it is I actually do, I put all my Dark Eldar on one table.

I found it surprisingly motivating. I had thought I would feel bummed because I still have so much left to paint of an army I had intended (hah!) to be ready for Nagoyahammer this year. Instead, I found myself picking up minis, pondering, doing the odd head-swap, thinking "hmmn. Maybe some trueborn would be good..." and so on. In short, I found myself well and truly back into the hobby.

So, I thought it might be nice if we could all post up pics of our armies. Not all your minis (god forbid. Even the internet isnt big enough for Prim's whole collection...), just choose one of your armies, take all of the minis for it and lay them out on a table. Take a picture (the higher res the better, as it allows people to zoom in) and post it in this thread. It's a bit of a fiddle to get them all on the table, I know, but its nothing we dont do every time we game anyway, just (probably) this is a bit bigger. I hope you'll find it motivational, and we can all ooh and aaah at each other's collections.

*edit* I just discovered Photoshop.com allows you to store humungous great big picture files for free and doesnt resize them or crop them or any crap like that. Much better than photobucket or the usual pic storage sites. As you can see, I uploaded 2 versions of my pic. One at full size (which I linked to), and one which I resized to 600pixels (which I [img] linked to). This seems to me to be the way to do it, but I aint about to hold anyone else to this.

I've been meaning to post to this thread for a while and now, due to some free time and something I am working on, I am proud to introduce my Tyrant's Legion force that I took to NagoyaHammer 2011.

Image
The army as a whole.

Image
Lugft Huron and his bodyguard.

Image
The vile Carnac Commodus, Huron's enforcer.

Image
A squad of Hereteks, no doubt bribed to fight by Huron with some forbidden technology.

Image
A vulture with twin linked Punisher cannons. Even orks agree it doesn't need more dakka.

Image
The humble Auxilia. These guys never fail to make their points back. This has more to do with them being dirt cheap rather than any actual combat ability.

And there you have it folks one of my armies, 2000 points fully painted, based and photographed. :D
Painted Minis in 2014: 510, in 2015: 300, in 2016 :369, in 2019: 417, in 2020: 450

lovely stuff :) This is a fun army to play against, too. I think there should be far more mixed armies out there, with marines, guard, and other bits and bobs all mixed together.

is my favourite line I've read all day.
