Ah, the warm fuzzy feeling of another painted Warmachine mini. Good show, Vossy!
While the photo seems to a be a bit on the fuzzy side, the mini itself looks nice and clean. Could maybe use a bit more highlight/shade contrast (as per my usual comments) but basically its a fine and dandy line trooper. Job's a good un. Do you have a plan for basing it, out of interest?

Winter base per my previous models. Once I get things down, I plan on researching how to winterize the minis a bit. I know you suggested dirt, but I want to do something out of the bitter winter. Don't know about Scotland, but in Montana, the earth is frozen solid, so dirt is out, but maybe snow of some sorts. Not sure how to do it yet.
And yeah, the joys of a cellphone camera. You can't see it, but unlike the jacks, this one has two layers of red with a wash on top.

No idea for the humes, but the Jacks could have li'l icicles hanging from their shoulders and li'l drifts of snow on top of their carapaces (but not their boilers, obviously...)
Snow on the base should be doable. You can get snow effects and snow flock. Combine the two with a bit of thought and you should be laughing. CMoN has barrel loads of tutorials on that sort of thing - a quick searcheroo and you should be good to go.

I'm getting to within sight of finishing my ork for the CMoN comp. Does anybody have any advice?

I'd go along with the suggestion for some weeds on the base, just a little mind you. I would also paint the straps on his back and on the pole of the banner in some complimentary colour. Overall, I think there is a lot of red on a mini I would expect to be predominantly green, so I would suggest not using any more red on it.me_in_japan wrote:I'm getting to within sight of finishing my ork for the CMoN comp. My thoughts;
What's with the banner skulls? Looks like the orks master crafted some humie skulls, feels a bit wrong there.
The rust looks great and very orky, but it feels like it is too standardized all over the model. Like a bad sunburn of rust.
The face really grabs ones attention and and the pose, walking over a piece of ruin really feels orky.
So I like the feel that this model projects, but it just feels like there is somethings that feel a bit off.

Awesomesauce. That is some B-A weathering going on there, and the red skin tones are working really well.
It's late in the game, I suppose, but I'm a bit indifferent about the base, but like Prim in a fairly unfocused way, heh. Maybe it's that big, intact gears are more steampunky than 40K-ish - it looks more like he's surveying the wreckage of a grandfather clock or a Babbage engine than some machine of war. But at any rate, the ork is the focus and I reckon he will grab it whatever the base looks like.
